  1. It means that, unlike throwing 95 MPH, you can't demonstrate that "clutch" is based on a player's physical skill or ability.
  2. You're arguing two differente points.
  3. Because this is the correct context for its usage.
  4. Not looking up the finer points of this comparison either ways, because CERA is the hot dog of catcher-value statistics, and we have some steak available.
  5. We're not going down this rabbit hole. CERA is bad, and it should feel bad.
  6. He's terrible at two objectively bad stats. Got it.
  7. BA has Sox 9th, Yanls 19th.
  8. ...both are objectively terrible.
  9. I am in court looking up some documents foe a divorce, but I will expand on this topic when I get back. The cumulative numbers are mediocre, and not necessarily a reflection of crappy defense. Also again, uzr/150 is beyond terrible in smaller samples. I don't see how you can turn on UZR while supporting CERA honestly.
  10. Why are you so insistent on trading Vasquez?
  11. It is. But it's not perfect. Defense is too hard to measure, and using uzr/150 instead of UZR compounds the issue, because UZR/150 is more predictive than cumulative in smaller samples.
  12. This team has one of the worst batted ball profiles of any contending team. Can't blame the defense for the pitching giving up lots of line drives and barrels.
  13. I did, and he had bad games, and even bad weeks. That's a clown comment bro.
  14. I mean it's real because it's an actual stat with an actual formula used for its calculation. But it's terrible, because it has significant background noise. Too many factors for it to be effectively objective.
  15. I mean it takes time to correctly identify and handle MLB pitching, and it's usually harder for swing-and-miss guys to get their bearings at the MLB level. And it makes sense, since they don't slap pitches around, but try to put hittable pitches into orbit.
  16. You can't teach power, but you can teach/improve pitch selection. That's why I think there's a lot of untapped potential in the kid.
  17. CERA is terrible. Clutch is not a repeatable skill.
  18. Why is the phrase "similar profile" so difficult to understand?
  19. Every hitter in the history of the game has been streaky. It's the nature of the sport.
  20. He could be an overall positive contributor if he can better sustain the hot streaks though. And his power is real.
  21. I did now. But I was like "whatevs". Anyways, I like Houck and he could be very good with better control and a workable changeup.
  22. I have no doubt you could also help f*** up a beloved franchise. Did you watch the video?
  23. That's why "similar profile" is a broad statement. I suggest a look see at this video to see where I'm coming from: https://youtube.com/shorts/147vVHgRkzA?feature=share
  24. Houck as a relief arm is a waste. He has a very similar profile to Chris Sale at that level of experience, believe it or not.
