  1. Paul Krugman for one
  2. Some people have been rooting for a disaster for their own political agenda. Having been involved in crisis management and natural disaster relief at both the state and federal level for both democratic and Republican administrations I know both make mistakes but I also know both do their best under difficult circumstances despite the naysayers most of whom have never been in such decision-making or advisory positions themselves.
  3. And this too shall pass
  4. The point is comparing Italy to the United States is apples to oranges. The Italian situation is different from ours. Every country has had to make adjustments to a rapidly changing situation. How ever this turns out I will always trust American crisis management over anyother.
  5. Italians have a higher mortality rate for this virus than do the other Europeans. Also I believe the number of smokers in both Italy and Spain is much higher than here.
  6. Having lived in Spain and having returned from Italy in October their situations are apples to oranges from ours. First the biggest problem for both is culturally they are a much more gregarious people then are we. They live in the street and cafes so the number of social interactions they have per day is much greater and more frequent than ours. This means the infection would spread faster. Secondly, both countries do not have as robust an emergency action response capability as do we. How do I know this because during my foreign service days this was my job for a number of yesrs. That is not to say it won't get worse here but anyone who has studied world history would know that in a crisis I'd rather have the Americans running the show and responding than either the Italians or Spanish and all four of my grandparents came from Italy.
  7. I think what my parents and grandparents went through, this is mild by comparison. That being said couldn't MLB at least conclude this red sox investigation.
  8. The United States not any country would survive if everybody just stayed home for two months. Police fire medical personnel farmers grocers utility workers truck drivers sanitation workers etc. All need to do their jobs regardless of the risk.
  9. I agree. I think this season will be delayed until May at the earliest.
  10. Going to tonight's game in Port Charlotte, curious to see attendance.
  11. That too. But I wouldn't discount coronavirus concerns here in Southwest Florida. I've talked to a couple of business folks recently at golf and restaurants and business is down a bit recently. They blame coronavirus concerns.
  12. Coronavirus fear affecting people showing up for games.
  13. Game is on ESPN. Once again ESPN proves that they do the absolute worst job of televising a ball game.
  14. I am at the game and they don't have any other options, at least none that have appeared in this game. I know it is still early on ST but I don't see much fire in any one like I've seen in the last few years.
  15. Wind is blowing out. A lot of dingers today. Hembree looked like he was throwing BP.
  16. When talking trades and pitching one needs to keep in mind why Bloom and not some other guy was hired. Book's strength is identifying and developing young pitchers. Bloom is looking for the young pitcher who either has been overlooked or undervalued by other organizations.
  17. To me it seems that the lawyers are looking at this with a micro scope. It seems to suggest that whatever evidence they have is not clear cut. It may be kind of murky. Hence the delay.
  18. Tell that to Joe C, Rod Bradford and Tom Caron and the rest of the WEEI broadcast crew. I am just relaying what they are saying. BTW. what they were talking about was far more than resting pitchers bit rather their approach towards hitters. They were discussing that Bush's approach is a total repudiation of LaVangie's approach. Moreover it seems it is one that Bloom has encouraged. Sometimes I wonder if some of you ever actually watch or listen to the games. Based on some of the comments it seems doubtful.
  19. Yesterday's game was a solid one for Red Sox pitching. The only pitcher who struggled was Walden when he went back out for. a second inning. According to the WEEI radio broadcasters Walden was working on commanding a relatively new pitch for him which he kept throwing. It was clear from listening to the two games driving to Florida that the Red Sox are trying a totally different approach to how they are handling their pitchers. Everyone makes clear that last year's approach was an utter disaster and no one is making any attempt to defend it either.
  20. A-Gon had a reputation as a clubhouse lawyer. Not that it is important but I don't think he endeared himself to Boston's sports media. I vaguely recall Bob Ryan being particularly harsh on him. I think Ryan called A-Gon clubhouse poison.
  21. I don't feel sorry for anyone who made a decision and now has to live with the consequences of that decision. Especially so when the consequences are millions of dollars allowing him to live the lifestyle beyond the reach of 99% of the population.
  22. Not every player wants to get every last cent. Some players value security. I suspect Bogie saw Pedroia's situation and may have thought there but for the grace of God goes I. He may have thought a bird in the hand.
  23. Castillo probably will go down in the record books as the International League's highest paid player. I am sure he is crying at the way he has been treated all the way to the bank.
  24. I agree. It is more important that his back issues are totally resolved. Moreover they need to know how he developed a stress fracture in the first place. I read somewhere that his form in the weight room wasn't very good. I am not saying that was the cause but if I were Boston I'd like to know.
  25. Castillo is being paid more money per year than 90% of the other guys on major League clubs. He is also being paid more than 99% of the adult population of the United States. I just don't see how he is getting "screwed"
