    I watched the entire game I don't care what pitch fx says he didn't throw a changeup until pitch fifty. Remy concurred. It was obvious that McClure was upset that Bard wasn't mixing his pitches that why we went out to mound. It was obvious that McClure was irritated when he went out to the mound and Bard knew it. There was no discussion. It was here is what you need to do. After that Bard began to mix his pitches better and threw more changeups. I know what I saw. Watch the game you might actually see something.

    Actually one didn't have be a body language expert to notice that McClure was throwing up his hands in disgust and reading the irritation on his face. And yes I have an advanced degree in that arena and have more than a dozen MSWs LCSW-Cs level clinicians plus several psychologists and on my staff of 170 in the organization I head, if you must know.

    Did you see the game? It was clear what McClure and BV were talking about . Jerry and Don made referrence to him not throwing any changeups. The Jays were sitting on his fastball. He pitched inthe first three innings like a reliever not a starter. He throw only two pitches fastball and slider. If he continues to do that the hitters will adjust and he'll get clobbered.

    You totally misconstrued or distorted my post. McClure and BV were concerned that Bard wasn't mixing his pitches in the first few innings. Bard never threw a changeup until after McClure mound visit. Bard's best innings were the 4th and 5th after McClure's visit, He still gave up 5 earned runs. Eck said overall his performance was "worse than mediocre" BV refused to commit to Bard permanancy as a starter. So yes you can tell a lot by watching the game and seeing what is going on, everything that is going on.

    Those stats are misleading since he threw mainly fastballs for the first few innings. He didn't mix his pitches until the fourth and fifth innings. McCclure went out there to tell him to mix it up more. Mc Clure's body language with BV told all you needed to know. The Jays were sitting dead red. He didn't throw his first changeup until the 50th pitch. If he were to do that regularly he'd get clobbered (not mix he pitches the way he did during the first three innings.)

    I'll give Bard a C. He pitched better than Beckett and Buchhoiltz which of course isn't saying much. He didn't mix his pitches well in the first few innings perhaps because of understandable jitters. Relied way too much on the fastball. He didn't look comfortable until the fourth and fifth innings. Didn't throw a a changeup until his 50th pitch. As they say he was throwing not pitching. That being said it was an important first step and very encouraging. He should get at least two or more starts as a result unless there is some unforeseen disaster that causes a change in those plans

    Youk seems to have changes his stance a bit. His timing appears off.

    the 5 th was Bard's best inning. Mixed his pitches very well. Didn't over use his fastball and it was most effective. That's what we want to see.

    The reason for the bad location on the fast ball is that is all he is throwing. He is getting tired IMO. When fastball pitchers get tired they tend to lose velocity and leave the ball up in nthe zone.

    The Jays are sitting on Bard's fastball. It looks to me that McClure isn't happy over Bard's pitch selection. He has thrown only one changeup to this point of the game.

    Several people have commetned that his velocity is down. It could be physical or aging but it also could be psychological in the sense Beckett doesn't pitch well unless he feels 100% comfortable. He clearly doesn't feel comfortable. The question is why?

    While the pen is the obvious immediate concern, the rotation is in no great shape either. Beckett may have physical issues but he also has mental ones as well. He simply can't pitch unless he feels everything is just right and he is 100% comfortable. Let's face it he is a "high maintenence" guy. Buchholtz had that "deer in the headlights" look. He is another one who simply is unable to recover from the slightest setback early in an outing. Everyone said for this team to do well the top three starters; Lester, Beckett, and Buchholtz had to have monster years. After three games, it doesn't take a genuis to say "Houston we got problems"

    This bullpen is so bad it managed to do something that is very difficult to do. Have two blown saves in the same game! Three blown saves in three games. Outf***ingstanding!

    The list is beginning to grow of the folks gcalling for Bard to bew the closer. I think it is going to be painfully obvious that they need Bard in the pen. It is inevitable.

    Didn't Don and Jerry just make a very strong suggestion that Bard needs to be the closer. That was the clear implication of their comment.
