clearly trying to induce the ground ball DP
Only problem here is that Mort is so afraid of getting the ball up at all....with good reason. May just end up walking Martin
Good move V...can't give them a run here....I suppose I should wait to see who comes in before saying that....but Frank has gotten everything up in the zone to often tonight and now almost every pitch is up...forced V's hand.
Can't you just wait to see Salty's numbers by the end of this season....our only silver lining will be or I should say should be that for some of these guys, any illusions will finally be completely shattered...Salty falls into that category.
Totally mystified by that one. Although I would love to see where Aviles was taking grounders that day in ST when V blew his cork and went ballistic on him. I would be willing to bet real money that Aviles was taking grounders at 3rd that particular day.
They can't expect Jeter not to see what is going on....Frank was using that curve with two strikes just to many times and I think Jeter saw that one coming a mile away.
Again tonight V has Ceriaco or I guess anybody but Aviles playing 3rd. While he is supposed to play the position, V must have seen something from Aviles in the spring that said to him that he would not use Aviles at 3rd if he was the last infielder he had. By rights you would think that if V had to play Aviles, Ceriaco at SS and Aviles at 3rd would make more sense.
That was a nice play by Aviles. He at least has a shot to make a play like that going to his left as he can go left. He has no cross over step going right. We have seen him close to falling over trying to make the first step going right.
SFF is right...Iggy's call up should just be viewed as replacing a guy in the lineup that is struggling.....at the plate....in the field.....walking and chewing bubble gun at the same time....all the tough stuff.
If anything Salty's deepening uselessness should have been predicted by the general dominance of seconf half pitching.
Remy treated Hughes to Salty like this is some sort of anomaly. Right Jerry the same anomaly that Hughes shares with 90% of AL pitchers.
However the way Hughes is pitching he is just aching to give the Sox this game.
Joe just needs to remind Hughes that these are the 2012 Sox. That should straighten him right out.
The unis have Hughes completely flummoxed.
Although, Hughes appears to be insistent on putting baseballs in the few locations where they can hurt him...which is fine by me.
Which is in part why I think the Sox are clueless about what makes a ML everyday SS. I have this recurring nightmare that has all the ML GM's flat on their backs laughing their asses off at Aviles making it as the Sox everyday SS.
I actually think I have seen more funky fielding by pitchers this year than I am used to seeing. Maybe the AL pitchers are petitioning for a Designated Fielder to go along with the Designated Hitter....some guy standing there by the pitcher's mound that jumps into the play whenever there is a play to be made. They will have an ump toss a green flag onto the field giving the DF the go ahead to jump into the play.
Morales is improving. He froze up realizing who he was pitching to about half way through Jeter's first at bat in the first inning of the last game he pitched against the Yanks. This time he made it through a whole batter.
Not really his fault though. He is young and has been thrown to the lions based on the magnificent planning of the Sox FO.
The fence lines are what are different between old and new especially between the foul pole and the power alley in right. The fence line for new Yankee stadium is anywhere from 9 to 5 feet closer than in the old park. Left field is so close as to be not worth mentioning. Center is actually a bit farther back in the new park but that is always a poke anyway. The new park favors the weaker LH hitter ala "the house that Granderson built".
If that Ross shot got out while I would be happy to have the run that would been the last of what shreds of respect I have left for the "the house that Granderson built".
Pretty amazing that it is all right back in the AL East....again. Both WC's would come from the AL East it the season ended today. Not sure if the Yanks would fall far enough to be out...out. It is possible.
Watching the O's play really the same ball they have played all year with the exception of a stretch where the starters stumbled some, I had questioned and continue to question them falling apart. They may not make it in but I don't see them falling apart either. Even in last night's game, the O's were playing a brand of ball that is not foreign to them while the Sox were having one of their rare moments of actually scoring runs when they needed them as opposed to some orgasm of runs on a particular day followed by nothing for two days.
