  1. In fact if Ells is thinking about the responsibility of batting lead off, then finding his groove at lead off might even be harder than if Farrell just stuck him down in the 9 hole and asked him to just get himself back on track again. Also, while I could be wrong, I don't think this is going to fix overnight. Ells swing has too many mechanical things going wrong at this point. It will likely take a little time for him to turn this around. Ells is jumping at pitches...he is not staying inside the ball and then exploding through it. Looks like he thinks he is carrying an aluminum bat to the plate and thinks he can just flick that thing out there for base hits.
  2. Still looks like a tired bat that Naps is packin' these days.
  3. Well I don't know about Brainless...stubborn at least.
  4. I just know Farrell is going to wait till Vic comes back. I would not wait to move Ells out of lead off. Once he had it worked out, I would move him back up to at least the two hole.
  5. Goaltending keeping the Rangers in the game tonight so far. Bruins have had two breakaways and several other scoring opportunities in the first period. So far, stoned by Lundqvist.
  6. If I am not mistaken it is Mattingly this year that is the guy that is on the hot seat that has also been left in lame duck status. I suppose we will never know if the Sox were just going to let Tito go at the end of his last year here and left him a lame duck because of their intention. However I think it should be pretty obvious by now that if you want to leave your manager with no tools to use to deal with the players, leave him a lame duck. Of course, since players tend to be pretty self aware if not self centered, don't expect your team to do s*** if you leave your manager a lame duck. Manager's don't have the same kind of impact on game outcomes that Head Coaches have in Pro Football. But if you don't have a guy running the show, your f***ed. Happy for Tito. Whatever anybody thought of him here, he did not deserve to exit baseball based on his last years here.
  7. Drew makes all the plays he should make. A rare quality in this day and age. Not many fielders you can say that about. He does not provide anything in the way of plus defense but Iggy still needs to hit better for his plus defense to be a factor.
  8. I don't even think it is helping Ells to have him batting lead off at this point. Farrell must want him getting AB's. So he stays in the lineup. But lead off. The guy is killing ua. Having him bat lead off screwed two innings at least last night. They can't afford to just give innings away. As for Vic, at least there is a chance now that when he comes back he won't be nursing a tender back. I would not be surprised if his running stride was a little out of whack because of the tender back. He really did not look right walking or running or batting.
  9. I am almost certain Webster will get another start this year. Just not right now. I actually don't think management has made a bad decision here.....Webster needs to develop farther. He tosses way too many mistake pitches up there which is not unusual for a pitching prospect. They are not used to seeing so many of their mistake pitches hit into orbit cause it does not happen in AAA. He did not fall off to base hits his first outing if you remember. When he fell off, he fell off to bombs......and that was his good outing. I would not have given him another start immediately, not the way he left the mound the last time. He was shell shocked and looked it. Confidence was clearly shot. You really do not want to chance two of those in a row with a young pitcher like that. I would bet he will get another start before the Sox start to look at finding something to replace Felix in the rotation....that is assuming they come to the conclusion that they need to replace Felix.
  10. I tend to agree with you here as Ferrell has already proven stubborn on this point. That said Ells does not suddenly look or get better because Vic is out. If Ells were just underperforming then the Vic situation has merit. But Ells is beginning to look like he is trying for an 0 for 2013. At this rate, it hardly matters whether Vic is in or not. For Ells own good he needs to be dropped in the order and told that he is to go to the plate intent on working through whatever ails him. When batting lead off, the hitter has specific responsibilities that Ells is not performing and should not be burdened with until he gets straightened out.
  11. Well s***...the only silver lining I can see outta' this is if Farrell has finally seen enough of Ells to drop him in the order.
  12. Oh ya' know Will wants that one back
  13. Way to hustle Pedey. Come on David...its time to feast
  14. That was the worst of four godawful AB's. Had a walk in hand and insisted on grounding to second instead.
  15. Oh come on.....somebody gettin' on and David is going to pound one. He is due for his daily feast.
  16. I agree...a little smart hitting and we should eat up this bullpen. Besides...we have cleared Mortenson!
  17. Since we are talking a little about patience at the plate...Mortenson lives off of impatient hitters. If hitters would simply exercise a little patience, he will burp out a meatball. Ya' just have to wait for it.
  18. Me too...Usually Remy says something about the wind direction although often in his zest for the home team he often misses it. The ball is not carrying to LF tonight. Drew hit one I thought at least had a chance and although Salty did get under that, if the wind was helping you have to think that would have been gone. In fact, a little help from Mother Nature and WMB's would have been out although it was more of a line shot.
  19. How did the ump miss that to Drew. How I hate these emphatic K calls by the home plate ump when he has missed a pitch that is not even close.
  20. And WMB does crush balls middle in....up, down sideways...if they are middle in he crushes them. He also can hit pitches on the outer half if they are up in the zone but he does not crush those.
  21. Well not you SFF but some folks want to have their cake and eat it too. We do have some hitters now that will just lay off that s***. We have others that just have not learned to lay off that crap. The pitches you are talking about are pitchers pitches. I don't care who you are as a hitter, swinging at a pitchers pitch unless you have to is just not smart. It does not matter whether it is a strike or not. The idea that every strike is worth swinging at is what gets hitters eventually swinging at s*** that looks like it is going to be a strike but ends up 6 inches outside and bouncing in front of the plate. The idea that reducing your working strike zone is "minor league" suggests that some of the greatest hitters in history were minor league. The entire foundation for Teddy Ballgame's hitting approach was built around working a reduced strike zone.
  22. I guess some folks are tired of hearing about it but Ells has gotten completely ridiculous. Please Mr. Farrell drop him in the order....something I can see Farrell maybe figuring if he just keeps getting AB's he will come around but at least drop him in the order till he does come around. I guess some folks don't want to hear about injury either but here comes Vic out of the lineup again. I can't help it if I can see somebody hurting sooner rather than later. I have been injured enough in my life and in enough places to know it when I see it.
  23. This is as whacked as Lester's motion has been this season. All over the place Bound to happen where he is in the strike zone
  24. WMB is soooooooo young. He is not close to fully developed as yet. Not saying bringing him up was a mistake. I think we will have to be patient with him though.
