  1. I was watching Padres-Dodgers last night, and as David Price started to cough up some runs and get the Padres started on their comeback, I realized how overall, I am content with the results of that trade. Sure, I would love to still have Mookie, but I am glad Price is LA's problem now, while Dugie is my favorite player on the current Red Sox roster. So, it got me thinking, why not take a look back at some Sox trades in recent history, and assess how they worked out for both teams. Dodgers (2020): Betts and Price for Verdugo As I said above, I'm very content with this deal now. Dodgers still "won" the trade, but not by as much as they originally thought. We have a baller in Dugie. White Sox (2017): Moncada and Kopech for Sale I truly think both sides are winners here. Kopech is blossoming into in ace (look at his numbers from his start yesterday), and Moncada has developed into an everyday 3B with a much lower K rate than when he arrived in the majors with the Sox Brewers (2017): Shaw for Thornburg Um yeah, let's not talk about this one... Am I missing anything from these deals? What other trades can we dive into?
  2. I usually root for the underdog, but considering that both my favorite player in the league AND a dude who's jersey I wore in high school are both on the Dodgers, hard to root against LA
  3. Yes, but I had mentioned him in the post that kickstarted this adventure
  4. 15-10 shootouts aren't exactly "quick" games either. Too many pitching changes and such
  5. I would say Lux counts, but not any of these, except for the Jordans
  6. I have ZERO problems with these new rules. I see I am the only one
  7. If the Brewers hadn't scored 6 in the 9th and brought in Hader for the save, I could have tied you in saves and then taken the lead in WHIP. I was pissed about that. It was a 1-0 game until they exploded.
  8. Brad Canada Ernie Canada Isaac Canada Romel Canada Austin Spain Bobby Spain Daniel Spain Tim Ireland Ty France Ossie France Parker French (was a minor leaguer here in Hartford - hasn't made it to the Rockies yet) Egyptian Healy Germany Schaefer Germany Smith Domingo German German Marquez Esteban German Greg Holland Derek Holland Chile Gomez Frank Brazill Taiwan Easterling Taiwan Perry Taijuan Walker (Little bit of a stretch) Iran Barrera Iran Falcon Iran Paz Israel Alcantara Israel Sanchez Israel Pike Slew of guys named Dutch and Chad (yes notin, we can use first names) Woody English Jesse English Bob England Dan England Dave English Joe Scotland
  9. Don't forget about JD. Can't think of a good nickname for him using your unique conventions
  10. I can't watch Yankee games for the same reason I can't watch Sox games, so I haven't personally witnessed Judge, so I can't weigh in on his health. It's a known fact that they are being careful with Stanton, but he will still get hot. He's turned the corner in the last week. Had a great series in Cleveland as far as I'm concerned. Yes, I agree, all they do is swing for the fences. There's nothing wrong with that if you're making solid contact, but they aren't. A lot of weak ground balls and double play balls. It's the general trend the game has gone in over the last few years. Maybe the short porches at Yankee Stadium encourage them to do that. I would be interested in seeing how they hit in a pitcher's park, where you have to find the gaps. I would even be curious to see how they hit at Fenway. Do the lefties try to pepper the wall or will they try to pull everything? All I know is that they should pummel the Orioles this week. If they don't, there is a serious problem, if there wasn't one already
  11. I think you're too quick to stomp on their throats. They showed signs of life this weekend. They are going to turn it around. Nobody denies the talent on their roster. Are you suggesting that Stanton, Judge, and Torres aren't talented? Are they not perennial all-stars? A team this talented won't struggle forever. Suggesting that their offense is not great is also suggesting that their offense is not talented. The skill is there. It's just a question of when they will come around.
  12. My offense is slumping so bad that Nick Solak was my top performer last week
  13. And the Red Sox are worse than 14-9. 5 more months to go. Don't sweat it just yet
  14. By that logic, guys like Aaron Judge and Aaron Hicks should be sent to the gulags
  15. I agree. More surprising stat out of Atlanta today, however, is that the Braves had 1 hit in 14 innings today. This is a team that was supposed to compete for the NL pennant
  16. This begs another question for me: What are we supposed to do with Chavis, assuming Dalbec eventually comes around?
  17. Those are ethnicities, not countries Domingo German could also be part of a days of the week list. Domingo is Sunday in Spanish
  18. Watching baseball this weekend has piqued my interest towards starting the following lists: Countries: Jonathan India Months: Dustin May
  19. Also, it may not seem like it, but we're leading the league in runs by a pretty decent margin
  20. I will take that. Sure, we haven't been playing well recently, but we still have not lost a series since the first series. The season has ebbs and flows, as we all know, so it is crucial to break things down into little chunks. Series splits against the White Sox, Blue Jays, and these sneaky good Mariners are fine by me. Let's go to New York now, get a win Tuesday and try to beat deGrom on Wednesday. We need this day off, and I would much rather go into it off a win than off 3 straight losses
  21. I would actually give the edge to Seattle. That bullpen looks legit
  22. Everybody down for a 4:00 first pitch? That's about what it's looking like. I think we will play this game today, because it beats the alternative of having Seattle come back here for one day at some point later in the year. We're off tomorrow and on a bus to New York, while Seattle heads to Houston for a night game. That's doable. I'm sure they would hang around Boston a little longer if it meant not having to come back
  23. Red Sox and Mariners are very similar teams, and not just because of current record and strength of schedule. This has been a very interesting series. Can either (or both) maintain this level of play all year?
  24. This is a VERY important game today. We have not lost a series since the very first one to the Orioles. Need a win here to split, because we have a tough week coming up, first against deGrom and the Mets on Wednesday and then in Texas, with a full capacity crowd
