  1. This team is not far from the 2011 Red Sox. Only about 2 weeks ahead of them actually
  2. Well considering Cecchini was top 50 in BA, Fangraphs, and Klaw, I would say maybe their aggregate opinion of him trumps yours. I can understand if he was ranked top 50 by just 1 guy, but he's a pretty much consensus top 50. And you're acting like the Sox would be giving up nothing. Four top 50 prospects, 2 or 3 of which are top 30, is an absolutely unheard of and extremely huge offer.
  3. Oh man I hope he's better than that. Lowrie is just a meh player, even when healthy IMO.
  4. The offer that rjortiz just posted would destroy any other offer on the table. Those prospects trump a lot of teams #1 prospects. The only team that could compete w the Sox would be the Cardinals. That's 3 top 30 prospects per Klaw & 3 top 50 per BA midseason, and BA didn't have Owens top 50 which he almost certainly would, now that he's dominating AA talent as well. The Marlins would be really hard pressed to find 4 guys rated in almost every top 50 prospect listing
  5. As much as I've stuck up for this team and teams past in times of trouble and agony, they deserved a little bit of seething anger last night. I will not apologize, and I will not ask for forgiveness.
  6. I may be mistaken, but I am fairly certain that season series no longer affects the tie breaker. It's now a situation where you have a head to head game, i.e. a game 163, to see who wins the division, regardless of head to head record.
  7. Yeah I meant 94-68. Typo.
  8. Rays have 23 away games, 20 home games. The Rays are a .500 team on the road, and a .639 team at home. If those percentages hold true, or relatively true, the Rays will finish the season at 93-69. For the Red Sox to finish 94-68, they will have to win 22 of their final 39 games, which is a .564 W%, or a 91 win pace. This is going to be a tight race.
  9. Xander Bogaerts: .324/.401/.503 over his past 47 games in AAA. He's also hitting .333/.483/.529 in 53 PA vs LHP in AAA. I can definitely see him coming up and playing against some lefties to keep Drew rested, and making a big impact in some games.
  10. The Sox have a really, really tough schedule to finish up: 3 v NYY 3 @ SFG 3 @ LAD 3 v BAL 3 v CHI 3 v DET 4 @ NYY 3 @ TB 3 v NYY 3 v BAL 3 v TOR 2 @ COL 3 @ BAL Bolded teams are at or below .500. So, of the Red Sox final 39 games, 11 are against losing teams, 28 are against better than .500 teams, all of which are contending teams in the PS hunt. They do have an extra series at home, which should help (18 away games, 21 home games), but if they're going to win this division or even make the PS, they're going to really have to earn it. The biggest boost that the Sox could get would be a healthy Buchholz in 2 weeks.
  11. Well this doesn't make sense. The Sox have a 5.5 game lead on BAL, who is the first to miss the PS. A bad series against the Yanks and a tough west coast trip could easily spin the Sox out of the PS mix. Not saying that's going to happen, but the collapse wouldn't have to be as massive as you portray by any means. They don't have a 20 game lead on the 3rd place team in the WC.
  12. It's more of me trying not to get crushed by a 2011 redux than anything. In my brain I think they're a PS team. In my heart I am trying not to get ripped again.
  13. I've lost all faith in this team, and I'm now trying to come to the realization that they will, once again, miss the post season. The earlier I start telling myself that, the less it hurts when it happens.
  14. I'm freaking sick of losing. Sweep the damn series and pick up at least 2 on the Rays this weekend. I'm not going to stop making game threads for a minimum of 7 games. Get your freaking s*** together, Red Sox. Lets go.
  15. Seriously?? How many times are we going to have people predict losses in specific games this year?? This is getting ridiculous.
  16. They're tied in the L column. They don't even have a legitimate "lead". They're only ahead because they've played more games. Anytime the team completely and utterly fails to get runs across the plate, it's lifeless. It's unfocused, and it's not fundamental baseball. They're swinging freely, not paying attention to the situation, and it comes back and bites the s*** out of them.
  17. Certainly didn't look like they cared very much tonight. Bunch of lifeless, flat players on the field tonight. They should have swept the Jays, but they lost 2/3. These games are insanely critical and the Sox keep blowing them
  18. The trip to Hou, KC, and TOR was supposed to be where they made up ground in the standings. Instead they went 4-6. They should have gone at least 6-4. Now we have a revived Yankees, with ARod, Granderson, and Soriano, and oh by the way it's Kuroda v Lackey and CC v Dempster on Sat and Sunday, good luck there. Then we go out west where hopefully we can sweep the Giants because I can't see us taking more than 1/3 vs the Dodgers. The more I think about this team, the more I worry about the PS.
  19. I'm not joking in the least. I'm 50/50 on this team making the post season this year. They've come out flat as complete s*** in the 2nd half. They're hitting .256 with a .329 OBP as a team post ASB. They're scoring 4.42 runs per game after tonight, which is down 0.75 runs per game, and they've faced some of the worst teams in all of baseball. I'm not even sure I'm 50/50 at this point. I may be 40/60, in the bad way.
  20. Lose game 2 because of an inside the park HR on a flip to the 1B and then lose game 3 by leaving 12 men LOB. This exactly how you collapse your way out of the post season. Wouldn't surprise me one bit. This team looks as lifeless as I've seen them all year.
  21. Screw this piece of s*** team right now. That's freaking pathetic.
  22. if you keep making GT's you won't have a chance.
  23. Looks like we'll be tied with the Rays in the L column after this game, which means we have absolutely zero control of our own destiny. Great work tonight boys. This team has looked like complete s*** a lot this second half. Complete and utter dog s***.
  24. These are the types of games that make me want to never watch baseball
  25. I actually can't believe this.
