  1. In all fairness, the original assumption was that Iggy would put up a line of .265/.330/.380. If he was hitting .180, obviously there would be problems. I still say we should keep Lowrie around as a potential DH/Super Utility player. He would provide incredible versatility in the DH role, and if he can put up 15-20 HR with an OBP of .370+, why not? That's hardly a hole in our line up, and having a switch hitting high OBP/above average power hitting super utility guy who can give Gonzo, Pedey, and Youk days off while keeping their bat in the line up, what's not to like? Especially at around $500k.
  2. I was just jackin around. Alex Gonzalez, I'm assuming you're talking about, had probably the biggest fluke season since Brady Anderson in 1996. Or Jose Bautista in 2010. Ok, 2nd biggest fluke season since Brady Anderson.
  3. I can hear it now. "Hey honey. Hey. Come check out what I wrote on talksox.com." "What'd you write?" "See? I called Iglesias Glovey McNoodlebat. Get it? Because he has a good glove but can't hit well" "....chirp chirp, chirp chirp" Joking, I would say that a lot of this depends on two things. Can Lowrie come up and consistently perform at a level like 2010? And also - How does Salty perform this year? We can afford to hide one sub-par bat in our line up if it strengthens our defense enough, but if we have to hide Salty AND Iglesias, then we could be in a bit more trouble.
  4. Lowrie is going to be an average defender. Iglesias is going to be a gold glove caliber defender that puts up modest hitting stats, which, in a line up like the Astros or Pirates, would stand out, but in a line up like the Red Sox, they can hide his mediocre offense for his gold glove caliber defense.
  5. I don't know. I don't like it, not when you could probably get him for 1/10 or 2/20.
  6. Probably a good idea. If Theo isn't going to re-sign him, which he may, I don't want to get in that argument again, but he's not going to offer Pap arbitration. No way he gambles with a 1 year/14-15mm deal for Papelbon. Might as well get as much as you can for him right now, because when the year is over, he's not going to give anything back to the Sox once he signs elsewhere. Just don't trade him within the division.
  7. I'm still relatively new here, but yes. I am starting to see a bit of a trend.
  8. I'm not dogging on Lowrie at all, I'm saying that if Iglesias lives up to his hype and is an elite defender, a line of .265/.335/.380 is perfectly acceptable. Will he be a weak spot in our line up? Sure. But he will provide defense at the SS position that the Sox haven't seen in a very long time.
  9. Do it out in the open! Don't let these pussies hide behind PM's. Joking - but seriously, if someone takes it personal because they think their team is better than other people ranked it, that's ridiculous.
  10. Wait. Ozzie Smith doesn't have a good upside?/ Ok. This conversation is officially over. Anyone who says they would rather have Lowrie over Ozzie Smith, well, I just have no reason to argue because it's not going to end pretty.
  11. The thing is - You have to keep the players happy, and Lowrie isn't going to be happy in a super utility role. He's made it perfectly clear that he wants to be a starting infielder, so I don't know how long he's going to be able to be the super utility guy in Boston. Having said that - if he puts up 15+ HR and an OBP of .370-.390, would it be so bad to have him as a DH/Utility infielder? Theo has stressed numerous times that he wants a DH with versatility, and that could be Lowries role in 2012, which would allow Iglesias to DH. Unfortunately, we would lose a lot of pop, but we would have a switch hitting DH with a high OBP that could replace any infielder almost seamlessly. The more I think about it, the more that sounds appealing, especially at Lowries cost. It all depends on how he hits this year and if he can get through a season injury free.
  12. Yup. My wife and I actually got married in St Pete Beach in October of last year. Fort Myers would be a weekend trip. And the Steinbrenner Field (or whatever it says) sign got the middle finger every single time I passed it.
  13. I think that Lowrie will outperform Scutaro offensively, but I think he'll be a utility player all year only because Scutaro can't play 1st or 3rd, and we don't want an in-season revolving door at SS based on the health of our other infielders. Having said that, in an ideal world, I think Lowrie would win the SS job by mid season. And I also think that Lowrie will be traded in the offseason and either the Sox will exercise Scutaro's option for 2012 or Navarro will be the back up utility IF.
  14. Who do you guys think is in on the Galarraga deal? They're saying a deal is likely but won't release the interested teams.
  15. My wife and I are moving to Boston this time next year, and then to Tampa a few years after that. I told her that we can move where ever she wants as long as I can catch a fair amount of Sox games. Tampa has the best of both worlds - spring training and 9 games vs the Rays.
  16. Clearly the offseason is coming to an end. That's the only possible explanation.
  17. Absolutely. Is this a parlay? Or is it 3 cases, one for Iglesias starting, one for Kalish starting, and one for the stats?
  18. WHAT?!? :wtf: This is ********.
  19. Wait. Let me get this straight. You're telling me that in 2012, Kalish is going to platoon with Player X, and Lowrie will be the starting SS over Iglesias? Wow. How about this. Iglesias will be the opening day starter in 2012. Kalish will hit 15 HR and steal 35 bases in 2012. And will start over 145 games.
  20. Regarding Vlad to the Orioles - If the Orioles do sign Vlad, they're going to be tough this year. Even if they don't, they're a tough team. With the Jays getting Napoli and Juan Rivera, the Rays getting Damon and Manny, and the O's potentially getting Vlad and ramping up their offense with Lee and Reynolds, the AL East is the best division in baseball 1-5. Those are tough teams that could all make runs at the AL Central or AL West.
  21. Definitely. No more rolling over Baltimore, even though that ended in 2009. They need pitching, though. Last year they had a team ERA of 4.59. If they could score a solid SP or two, or if Matusz breaks out along with Weiters, they could be dangerous. That club is turning around.
  22. I could see Iglesias making an impact in 2012 for sure. Also, I think Kalish is going to take over for Drew, which also brings up the question, why wasn't he in that ranking? Is it because he played 50 games in the bigs last year?
  23. Surprised at the Napoli deal. Wonder if the Sox were ever even considering him? He would have been a huge upgrade over Salty and Tek offensively, and probably could have helped Lackey settle in a little more.
