  1. Bad loss last night. Entirely too many missed opportunities at the plate. Though I often hear players say it's the 2nd game where the fatigue gets you after a late night followed by a long road trip. Really need to start putting this crap together. Are the Red Sox going to make the playoffs? Yes. As bad as they've been playing lately, they've still got a 5 game lead in the WC over the Guardians and a 5.5 game lead over the Orioles. There's no way that the Guardians or Orioles are 5 games better than the Red Sox over 35 games. Plain and simple: The Red Sox and Rays are both making the playoffs. We've got a 34 game season left to see who wins the AL East. Put this absolute garbage play behind you. Come out today. Destroy Zito and go take 2/3 from the Dodgers. Just win series. Don't have to win every game, just win series.
  2. Have you only watched the Sox for the past 2 weeks?
  3. Crap. I must have missed something.
  4. Don't sleep on Napoli. That guy goes nuts in September. Career .297/.389/.619 in September. September, 2011: .429/.518/.843 in 21 games. September, 2012: .293/.383/.780 in 13 games. That's absurd.
  5. Don't remember Peavy's FB running as much as it is tonight.
  6. Damn. That may have squeaked through if Vogelsong didn't get a glove on it. Shut em down, Peavy.
  7. Peavy looks like Jeremy Renner, IMO. http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg686/scaled.php?tn=0&server=686&filename=1fscd.jpg&xsize=480&ysize=480
  8. SF Giants just tweeted out that Zito will start tomorrow for them in place of Gaudin. Gotta think Drew is going to get 2 days off now. Can't imagine him playing against any lefties now w Bogaerts up. And the Sox face 2 more lefties in LA.
  9. Buchholz declared the sim game a success, will throw a bullpen session on Friday in LA followed by a minor league rehab start next week. Sounds like he's getting back into the starters routine of throwing a game, 2-3 days later throwing a pen, then 1-2 days after that throwing a game. Should be in a minor league game by Monday/Tuesday, followed by a start against the White Sox, probably on Saturday. EDIT: Scratch that. Now being reported he will need more than 1 rehab start, so push it back to the Tigers or Yankees. Looks like we'll see Dempster 1 more time.
  10. Buchholz is throwing a sim game right now. Huge step. Precursor to a rehab outing. Then probably will start against a less than stellar offense. Sox play the ChiSox from 8/30-9/1. Seems to line up well.
  11. Dempster suspended for 5 games. He'll miss the Dodgers series. My best guess is a 4 man rotation, but I could also see them giving Workman a start.
  12. Between now and 9/1? Pete Abe recently tweeted that he suspects Buch will make his first start on 9/1. I believe he's throwing a sim game today, then a rehab start, then he's back. If that's the case, then you go with a 4 man rotation 1-2 times through, and then Buch returns and you go back to a 5 man. You may have 1 more start for Dempster depending on the scheduling and how it all turns out with Buch and his return, but I would guess if he's back in 2 turns, they'll demote Dempster to the long man in the pen.
  13. Farrell had already talked about going with a 4 man rotation, this only serves to give him more incentive to do just that. By the time Dempster's suspension is served, Buchholz will be back. I don't think Dempster makes another start. And if he does, it will only be 1 or 2, maybe one at the end of the year if we clinch the AL East with a couple games left.
  14. Also hope we have a 4-5 run lead in the 9th and we can see what Brayan Villareal has to offer. Guy pumps absolute gas, but he also is pretty wild. Last year, though, he was outstanding for the Tigers, posting a 2.63 ERA. The more you think about it, the more you realize that dishing Iglesias for Peavy and a sub-3.00 ERA that throws 98+ was an outstanding deal
  15. Looks like Bogaerts is going to get the start at SS tonight. Which means, of course, that he'll likely be hitting in front of Peavy. Which means he will probably go 1-1 with 3 walks. I'll be shocked if he gets a pitch to hit all night, outside of maybe when Ortiz is PH for Peavy. Now that Ross is finally back as well, I am looking forward to seeing if this lineup can right the ship vs LHP. Ells Vic Pedey Ortiz Nap Gomes Ross WMB Bogaerts, at least on paper, is a hell of a lot better than the lineup that featured Drew and Salty vs LHP.
  16. Yeah because that's realistic. I guess players aren't affected by a lack of sleep. That makes better sense for your argument. They're all robots.
  17. Because Drew and WMB played until 1am last night and Xander didn't?
  18. You're confusing the two. Should the Sox have thrown at ARod in that situation? No. Did it cause the Sox to lose? No.
  19. Why would they call him up to play 3 games when both WMB and Drew could use a rest after the late night and the long trip out west? And you don't call up your best prospect, and arguably baseball's top prospect, just to play 3 games. If Drew starts against either of the LHP in the Dodgers series, that would be ridiculous. He'll start 4 games. 2 in each series, and potentially 1 more if they try WMB out at 1B at all.
  20. Mike Axisa wrote an article today that the Yankees could still win the division. lol. Sorry big man. I know you won 6/8, and that's nice and all, but you played the Angels and had your 3 best pitchers go against the Red Sox 3 worst. At the very least, 2 of the 3 worst. Laughable. Anyway, this team turns it around tonight and goes on a huge huge run. They'll win 10 of their next 12 games.
  21. After a long night followed by a west coast trip, I guarantee you that both Middlebrooks and Drew will get a day off against the Giants, obviously on alternating days. I would guess Drew gets tonight off, Middlebrooks gets tomorrow, and Bogaerts sits on Wednesday. Also, the Sox face both Capuano and Ryu against the Dodgers, so that's 4 out of the first 6 games that Bogaerts should be playing.
