  1. Buchs average velocity in 2010 was around 94. He is sitting around 92 this year, but I think he is hesitant to really let go early on because of his back last year. I think he will come along just fine. It's only been 4 starts. I'm concerned too, but I have to remind myself that he's a little rusty after not throwing since last June, and it will take a few starts to get back into the swing of things. I think we will start to see some progression very soon, likely in his next start against Oak.
  2. Why are we trying to trade Doubront again?? Especially after a scout just likened him to Pettitte? Doubront is an extremely cheap, cost controlled middle to back of the rotation starter who is going to give you a quality start more often than not when he begins to learn how to be efficient with his pitches. He's still a young kid and has a lot of upside. Keeping a guy like and Bard in the rotation allows this team to spend money elsewhere and still have a very solid rotation. Go out and spend money on the bullpen, but don't trade Doubie. EDIT: damn I hate typing from an iPhone.
  3. Yup. Lars to Oakland in a deal for an arm. Abreu to Boston as a back up. Abreu wears out the Monster.
  4. Took the wife down to Newport for her birthday, so I missed the game, but it looks like the offense is still rolling and Bars threw a hell of a game. DMac even getting into the action. Did I miss anything other than that? Papi bomb, Byrd 2 knocks, Youk + Shoppach, 7 k's!
  5. You should be president of the Keep Doubie Here club.
  6. This is very encouraging and reflects the same opinion a lot of people on this board have about Doubront. From Knobler of CBS Sports:*@DKnobler: I don't know if Red Sox fans will like this or not, but one scout said Doubront reminds him of Andy Pettitte. Give me that comparison all day, any day. Especially for a #4/5 starter.
  7. Exactly. Gonzo came out after the season and said he was expanding the zone and trying to do too much rather than taking his walks.
  8. Say what you want. Tazawa looked very good in each of his appearances. Including against the Yankees. Sorry the Red Sox don't have to play the Tigers/Rangers/Yankees/Blue Jays offenses every day.
  9. I always want Bard to close. Until it's his turn to start. Oh, the conundrum!
  10. Didn't you make this same claim like a week ago and we all told you that Hill was due back very shortly?? There's no need to make stuff up when there have been clear reports that he was throwing in Pawtucket, the last stop of his rehab stint, and he threw in back-to-back games this week.
  11. Thank God he's ready. That was an extremely quick recovery from TJ. I read somewhere that he has altered his hand position, not his arm slot, but his hand to generate more of a downward plane to have a better effect against RHH, and that it's worked extremely well so far. Not to mention that against LHH during his rehab, they went 0-8 with 7 K's against Hill. Between Hill and Taz, this bullpen looks a hell of a lot better now that it did just 3 or 4 days ago.
  12. Alex Wilson was pulled from his last start and is now being groomed for a relief role. According to the people at SoxProspects, they liken him to Daniel Bard. Mid 90's fastball, very sharp slider. Maybe not the K potential that Bard has, but the same role as he served in 2009. The process generally takes a few weeks, so look for Wilson to be brought up in mid to late May.
  13. Ya know, everyone is talking about the Rangers offense, but the Sox have scored only 3 fewer runs and have played 1 less game. Sox team OPS is only .012 points lower than the Rangers. And this is all without Ellsbury or Crawford, and with Gonzo and Youk pulling the average OPS down. A little bullpen help from Rich Hill, Tazawa, and Alex Wilson and this team could surprise some people.
  14. I appreciate that. I actually really hope Youkilis turns it around. Just because I am not a huge fan doesn't mean I don't want him to do well. By all means, please return to the 25-30 HR, 90-100 RBI, .290-.300 hitter!
  15. Red Sox are 3-1 in Doubront starts. And the only game they lost was that bullpen choking on its own vomit against the Yankees.
  16. Just because they didn't beat them earlier doesn't mean they won't beat them later. It's amazing how much better a team plays when it's winning games and gaining confidence. Oh, and when they have 3 of their studs (Ells, Craw, Bailey), who should all be back in the middle of the year. This team just needs to keep pace for the first half, stay within striking distance, and then when the reinforcements come back, they can make some headway pretty quickly.
  17. So you don't throw him in high leverage situations. When you have Non-Closer-Aceves, Bailey, Bard, and Hill, you can avoid Morales in high leverage situations.
  18. Adrian Gonzalez through 18 Games in 2011: .286 Average, .804 OPS Adrian Gonzalez through 18 Games in 2012: .300 Average, .807 OPS He's just a slow starter. He's actually outperforming 2011.
  19. Those are some horses that we will have lined up in the bullpen if it all works out. Bailey/Bard is a sick 8/9, almost as good as Bard/Pap. I've heard Chris Mellen of SoxProspects (who is actually extremely unbiased and coolheaded about the prospects) say that Wilson has a mid-90's FB and a devastating slider, perfect 7th inning guy for the Sox. He says he'll be like Bard was in 2009. Please give me that. You tack that on with Rich Hill who destroys lefties, Morales, Tazawa and Aceves as multi inning guys. This team has the horses for an elite bullpen. Just may take a little bit to get there.
  20. Aviles!! I thought that ball was out.
