  1. Players on the Red Sox with a higher OPS than Adrian Gonzalez thus far: Kelly Shoppach Jarrod Saltalamacchia Darnell McDonald Wow.
  2. I disagree with this for only 1 reason - The schedule. The Sox May schedule is incredibly, incredibly weak. 2 v OAK 3 v BAL 3 @ KC 4 v CLE 2 v SEA 2 @ TB (Tough) 3 @ PHI 3 @ BAL 3 v TB 4 v DET So all in all, in the Sox next 29 games, they have a total of 9 tough games. I'm sorry - I don't consider PHI to be a tough opponent right now. They have zero offense (Team OPS of .635. That's horrendous). So in those 29 games, the Sox should be able to post an 19-10 or 18-11 record, which would put them somewhere around 30-21 or 31-20. They definitely have the horses to put up that kind of a record vs that schedule. They are extremely fortunate to have this break in the schedule, though, because when Ellsbury and Crawford get back by mid-to-late June (maybe early July for Crawford), they can hang with any team in baseball.
  3. Well fellas. I was thinking about it. I've been to a few games where Buchholz has started, and I have never seen a Red Sox loss in a game started by Buchholz. So, I decided to man up, make the ultimate sacrifice, and purchase a ticket to tonights game. You're all welcome.
  4. When you look at his past 355 innings of work and see an ERA of 3.10, yes, you can absolutely expect him to return to those numbers. And don't give me the Phil Hughes bullcrap. He had a good 39 IP in 2010. After that he posted a 4.98 ERA for the remainder of the year over the remaining 137 IP. Buchholz has shown that when he's healthy, he is a very good pitcher. You just refuse to believe that because you're a Yankee fan and you're biased, which is fine, but that's what it is. Taking 4 starts of Buchholz this season and saying he's not a lock to return to the form he was in during his 355 innings prior to that is ridiculous. His velocity is picking up. It's his location that he's missing right now. That's a sure sign of rust.
  5. SSS??? Coming into this season, he had thrown 348.1 IP to a 3.10 ERA in his previous 3 seasons, and 256 IP to a 2.70 ERA in his last 2 seasons. You can't be serious with that comment.
  6. Yes. I can guarantee you right now that Buchholz will come around. And it's not even close to being the same. Labrum surgery with unknown recovery at all vs a stress fracture which has fully healed?? That's not even close. Buchholz is rusty to start, as should have been expected. His velocity is slowly but surely increasing. He's going to come around.
  7. Beckett after DET (first start): 4 GS, 2.93 ERA Bard after TOR (first start): 2 GS, 1.98 ERA, 13.2 IP I really, really like our SP right now. Buchholz is going to come around, we know that. The SP right now is hands down better than the SP was this time last year.
  8. Rangers take a 1-0 lead on the Rays. Also, I really miss Beltre.
  9. The Red Sox (10-11) are 3.5 games back right now to the Orioles. If the Rangers win tonight, the Sox will be 2.5 back on the top placed true contender (Rays). So, the Sox being 3.5 games back and in last place are closer to 1st place than the 2nd place team in the AL West and NL West.
  10. 3 runs isn't too much to overcome in the 9th. Especially with Pedroia leading off.
  11. Who wants to bet Sweeney gets PH for by McDonald. And he comes through.
  12. Alright. Lars single. Shoppach double. Aviles RBI groundout (right side). Sweeney RBI groundout. Game tied. Red Sox win it with a run in the 9th.
  13. Not gonna lie - I'm a huge fan of how Valentine is letting the pitchers build up their pitch counts into the 120's.
  14. Yeah I almost think Ortiz should have tried to score on that hit by Ross.
  15. Just give me a flare here, Punto. Just a bleeder.
  16. Yah. On defense. This team has won 6 in a row, give me a break on the uninspired load.
  17. Wow. Did I misread that off the bat, or did it look like Ortiz hit that way harder than he did?
  18. Damn. Come on now Beckett. GIDP and get out of this inning, and cruise from here on out.
  19. Lets go Sox!!! Get the W!!!
  20. Well then, this actually worked out perfectly! Sox are playing very good baseball right now. It's a perfect storm of playing well and ease of schedule. Keep rolling!!
  21. Niemman going for the Rays against the Rangers, that's a W for the Rangers. Garcia going for the Yanks against the Tigers, that's a W for the Tigers. Lester needs to go out there tonight and dominate. Sox win tonight and they'll be at .500 and only 2.5 back in the east. That'd be awfully nice after such a terrible start.
  22. Youk has zero value to any non contending team. And for the contending teams? Rays: Longo Yanks: ARod Rangers: Beltre Angels: Trumbo Tigers: Cabrera Phillies could use him, but they don't have much to offer in return that they would actually give up. Braves have Chipper, they don't need another injury prone 3B. Brewers have Aramis Ramirez. Cardinals have Freese, who is going to be a beast and I think that's the player that Middlebrooks should be compared to. Giants have Panda. DBacks have Roberts, not playing well now but not sure Youk would provide enough of an upgrade to warrant a trade. The only team you can try to trade Youk to is someone like the ChiSox who may think they are a bat away from being in contention right now with the way their pitching has performed, and then you get a guy like Thornton in return and throw the ChiSox 3-4mm.
  23. Billy Beane has an obsession with Lars. He was the centerpiece in the Harden deal that fell apart and everyone thought he would be in the deal for Bailey. Beane has always been very interested in Lars, that's definitely no secret.
