Just hearing today that Masterson is available. I'm all for going to get him. Think about it. You're going to have Gonzo, Pedroia, Iggy, Middlebrooks as your infield for the next few years. Give me Masterson's 96 with sink in front of that infield all day. He could be excellent.

Thing is with Beckett - I've heard a few reports that teams are afraid of him because they don't want him to infest their clubhouse. No joke. I think Gammons reported it.

I say buy. 1. If you're going to sell pieces like Beckett, Lester, etc, at least give them a chance to build their trade value. There's no sense in selling them at a discount because of a poor season. If you want to trade them during the offseason, I'm all for it. But for now, you're not going to get much of a return on either until they show they can still pitch. 2. Call me crazy, but I never count this team out until it is mathematically out of it. If we had a bunch of pitchers with s***** track records, fine. But this team isn't playing well because of underperformance, not lack of talent. And I will always debate that talent doesn't just disappears at the drop of a hat. So, I say buy, but if you buy, go out and get a guy like Justin Masterson or Josh Johnson, not a rental.

Just let us enjoy a win. We don't always have to be projecting the meaning of a win. Baseball is much more enjoyable when you just watch it without trying to extrapolate the results into future performance. And I say that as a guy who made the projections more than anyone. Just enjoy baseball.

Trade Shoppach, make Lavarnway the backup C. Trade Punto, Aviles is the new utility player, call up Iglesias. Aviles has a .678 OPS. I'm sure will see a drop off in production, but I mean really, is there really a difference between a .678 ops and a .600 or .595 ops?? To me, I want the glove if we are getting next to nothing from the bat, and that's what Aviles has given us. Listen on Beckett, but he's going to have to get around equal return. I'm not just dumping him unless someone picks up his entire salary, which I don't see happening. Send Crawford to have his surgery, and see if you can swap bad contracts with another team (Werth?) during the offseason. If you can get Crawford in a situation where he is able to return for the 1st game of the year next year, you will have a better chance of trading him in the offseason. I agree with UN? to go get Werth and see if the Nats will make that deal. Werth is the middle of the order RH power bat that we could use. Crawford would likely be a much better player in an open left field in a less pressure market. Get the youngsters some reps and iron out some of the kinks. And trade for an ace this offseason, that's the#1 goal this offseason. We really should stick Morales back into the rotation and see exactly what we have with him at the end of this season.

Barnes has 71 K and 16 BB in 67.1 innings in high A Salem, and has allowed only 2 HR. those are the numbers you need to look at right now because it's not his choice to be at Salem. I'm sure they will be putting him at Portland soon, but even so, he's got a 9.5 K/9 and a 2.1 BB/9. Those are impressive numbers, and he is getting recognition for it (13th best prospect in BA Midseason rankings), but it's justified.

Right, but when does he fill out? Likely what, 26 or 27? So if he goes 1 level per year, he is with the Sox when he is 22. So that gives him around 5 seasons of SS before he is fully grown, and at that point you can make a decision on what you want to do with him but at least you will have had 5 years of Middlebrooks/Bogaerts as a left side of the infield. That's what they need to gun for right now, because that would be a ridiculous infield paired with Pedroia and Gonzalez.

My untouchables - there are 3. 1. Pedroia, obvious reasons. 2. Buchholz - first off, I don't associate him w the beer and chicken crew from last year. Maybe the injury was a bit of a blessing in disguise because if he was healthy, he may get grouped in with those guys. Then again, if he is healthy, maybe they win 2 more games over the year and none of that even comes out. This year would be an even bigger disaster if they were a 95-97 win team last year like they should have been. 3. Middlebrooks - no chance I move him. He is the next Pedroia in terms of being a home grown, potential all star every year. He will hit you 25 hr and drive in 85-100 depending on where he is slotted in the order. He's a big right handed power bat that certainly justifies the excitement surrounding him. He is at 12 hr right now, and it wouldn't surprise me if he hit 20 this year, which is fantastic given he started late and is a 23 year old rookie. Those are my 3 non-movable pieces. Anyone else is fair game as long as they bring back the talent we need. If the Mariners and Sox are talking about a deal involving Felix and they want Barnes and Bradley, go get him.
