  1. Yeah, when you get past the emotion part of how much last night sucked, that's the truth. If we won last night, people would be thinking about us catching up. We lost and people think the season's in peril. But it's one game, is it really that big of a difference?
  2. I'll finally be able to watch a game. Hopefully they don't suck.
  3. "Reasonable people" with "an idea about baseball" know that the season is over because the Yankees and Rays have been "decisively better" for less than a quarter of the season. We're just unreasonable Red Sox fans.
  4. This game sucked. That's pretty much all you can say. It's frustrating to see our pitching be some of the worst in the league. But sooner or later, it's going to turn around and anyone who knows anything about baseball knows it.
  5. Johnson is now out indefinitely. He won't even be able to pick up a bat until mid-June. Just another typical season for him. The Yankees were as foolish for picking him up and thinking he'd be healthy as the Red Sox were for picking up Baldelli. Only difference is, the Red Sox didn't plan in Baldelli replacing one of their best hitters from the previous year.
  6. Let's hope the Red Sox turn it around tonight. There's still plenty of time in the season, but it would be nice to not have to play catch up much more than we already have to.
  7. Javier Vazquez is 3.07 points away (on a 100 point scale) of losing his Type A status. If he continues to struggle or spends an extended amount in the bullpen, there's a good chance that he's only a Type B free agent at the end of the year. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/05/elias-rankings-update.html
  8. Do you disagree that most pitchers begin to decline around 33 or 34 years of age?
  9. One thing I noticed about Lackey when I looked over his splits, situational pitching, game logs, etc. was that Lackey's tends to be a streaky pitcher, so I'm not so concerned that he's been lackluster so far. 2007 was the one exception where he was good in pretty much every month. But other than that... 2008 - ERA of 1.44 his first two months of the season, ERA of 6+ in July and September 2006 - ERA of 2.95 April through July, ERA of 6+ in August 2005 - ERA of 5.61 in April, ERA below 3.15 the rest of the year
  10. I never said that he is declining, I said that most pitchers tend to decline around his age.
  11. You had multiple accounts?
  12. Well he wasn't going to have a .371 BABIP forever...
  13. I didn't see the game, but looking at the box score I can tell that it sucked. Lester's continued to pitch well though and that's a good sign. And so is the fact that Ortiz continues to mash the ball. The most concerning thing for us all year long though has been our ability to hit with runners in scoring position. We were 4-for-15 with RISP tonight and left 13 guys on base. Our team OPS is only points away from the major league lead, yet we're 4th in the majors in runs scored.
  14. Oh, really? I hadn't noticed!
  15. The point of the thread really wasn't to discuss whether Lackey's been struggling or not. That was a throw away line. The point was to discuss the fact that the Red Sox had attempted to acquire Granderson and Vazquez this offseason.
