  1. No, I totally get that - I really meant chances of making it out of the group stage. Never would I think they could actually win it.
  2. Captain Intangibles to the rescue. Or maybe not...
  3. Well, good to know you can close the book on the USA's chances before a single ball is kicked.
  4. I feel sorry for the Mariners screwing themselves with this abortion of a contract, but they did it to themselves.
  5. This was a win/win for us - either the Yankees lose Cano, or they sign him to a really long dumb deal like this. Kinda would have preferred them to saddle themselves with another albatross contract. Oh well.
  6. The Yankees are right to draw a line with Cano. Unfortunately they've undermined themselves with the terrible Ellsbury deal but you can't win them all.
  7. Technically, Houston is the worst team. But anyway - an absolute lock that there's no way he plays out the entire contract in Miami.
  8. Gordon Edes on espn.com, about Ellsbury: That first part might be the biggest crock of s*** I've heard from ESPN this year.
  9. Wait, it gets better. New York isn't done, either. Sources told Yahoo Sports the Yankees will continue to pursue the other pricey outfield client of agent Scott Boras, Shin-Soo Choo, along with the top free agent on the market, second baseman Robinson Cano. The Yankees believe they can sign one or the other, sources said, still have room to pursue a starting pitcher and stay within the $189 million luxury-tax threshold.
  10. Something that just occurred to me - they already pretty much have this type of player in Gardner, and then a poorer version coming off the bench in Ichiro. I don't even think Ells hits enough to justify this contract - only one full year at > .800 OPS. I guess if you look at WAR he had a good year this year, but his totals have been inconsistent throughout his career.
  11. True. But he's still overrated IMO.
  12. Seriously, though - when is Cashman shown the door? He's one of the most overrated GMs in the game.
  13. Tom Cruise reacts to the Ellsbury deal. http://cdn.pophangover.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/creepy-tom-cruise-animated-gifs-1.gif
  14. LMAOOOOOOO!!!! Classic. Ah, I'm going to enjoy watching the Yankees putting themselves right back over the barrel they just got away from. Morons.
  15. Speed doesn't justify that price tag, and he can only steal bases when he's actually on the field. LOL at another terrible contract and hopefully there's no LAD to come bail Cashman out in a couple of years.
  16. Salty's gone - hurrah! Replaced with a guy with a worse OPS - wait wat?
  17. I like McCann, but he's almost certain to decline, and those injuries.....
  18. I wish A Rod would just go away. He's one of a small bunch of people I loathe on a level as deep as the Mariana Trench.
  19. Dan Szymborski is an idiot. He says the Braves should trade Kimbrel because it's likely they've already received peak production from him because most closers have a short shelf life, then goes on to say what teams like Pittsburgh got for trading a closer, and concludes Kimbrel should bring a significant prospect in return. Did you miss the part where you argued it's likely his best days are behind him? Regardless of what reality may turn out to be, you just contradicted your own argument, you clown.
  20. Ergo, the highest-paid designated hitter in history. Good job, Detroit.
  21. f***ing stupid trade for Texas unless the Tigers fork over a barrel load of cash - which would just underline the crass stupidity of giving a one-dimensional player that huge contract to start with. Time for teams to wake up and stop vastly overpaying and expecting videogame numbers each year.
  22. Apparently Wieters wants Joe Mauer money. Pretty ballsy coming off his second-worst OPS season, and, hey, here's an idea - try posting at least one above .800 first?
  23. damn, if only it had been Seattle....
  24. Giants sign Tim Hudson 2/$23 mil
  25. Baseball, by far, but I still find the finer points of football confusing. I feel I could study baseball my whole life and still not learn every aspect of the game.
