  1. Purely speculative reasoning, no doubt. Gutierrez received a 1 million dollar contract to play in a cavernous park with a losing team. I consider the offer given to Sizemore to be significantly more desirable for a free agent, based on park factors, incentives, and potential of winning.
  2. One more time -- he hasn't played a full season in 5 years. If the Red Sox were willing to spend 700k on him, with a potential for up to 6 million, why didn't they get Franklin Gutierez instead? He also hasn't played a full season in a full years, had good speed, top notch defense, and actually fits into a platoon because he is righthanded, and cost only 250k more than Sizemore's base salary. It just makes me curious to see the medicals, because I think Ben and company saw something they liked in Sizemore.
  3. Err, what?
  4. I have been implying in my posts that I think there is a possibility that Sizemore is finally back to being healthy and Ben has a huge steal, but at the same time I am concerned about the roster situation. What if he ends up being healthy but produces meh production? He will probably hit some of the incentives because of the lack of RF/CF depth.
  5. Giving a major league deal, and the potential to make 6 million dollars to a guy who hasn't played baseball in 3 years, and a full season in 5 years? Either Cherrington saw significant health improvement in the medicals, or it is silly. They will probably have to bump Nava/Gomes/Carp to make room for him on the 25-man. I am hoping for the best, but am cautiously concerned.
  6. The part that intrigues me is that he had knee surgery in 2009/2010 that apparently never worked and he had surgery on the same knee this year to fix it. It makes me wonder about the Medicals and the perplexing major league deal. He has a potential to make 6 million based on plate appearances.... Doesn't that seem insane ? Maybe they see something legitimate in Sizemore's future.
  7. MLBTraderumors reporting that it is a major league deal. What?!
  8. Grady Sizemore to Red Sox. He has only played 100 games in the last four years, but here's hoping that they catch lightning in a bottle. He's a 31 year old that was a top 10 in the MVP race several times.Probably won't do anything, but stranger things have happened.
  9. Darvish had a 3.90 ERA at 191 innings against a weaker division his first year. Dicek had a 4.40 ERA at 204 IP. Kuorda had a 3.70 ERA at 180 IP Uehara had a 4.00 in relief. There will be an adjustment period.
  10. The real question is... can Tanaka replace Andy Pettite's place in the rotation? -Cano, Pettite, Granderson, Rivera, Logan Arod +Ellsbury, Tanaka, Beltran, McCann, Thorton They gained some real talent, but they lost three guys who will get HOF consideration, and that doesn't even include Arod. Their infield is talentless, and their bullpen has exactly one experienced arm. They are in serious wild card contention for sure, but I am not sure about the division.
  11. f***. f*** Arod. f*** Bud Selig. f*** the MLB Player's Union. And more importantly, f*** the Yankees. May Tanaka grow fat and lazy, and be the next Dice-k.
  12. One was a huge part in a championship. Another was a huge part in two championships. What's the difference? If baseball was a game of chess, would you be more impressed by the queen, or the player moving the queen around?
  13. They were a huge part in earning championships. That's like saying "Amazing that people still like that Pedro guy. Who cares one way or another now that he is retired ?"
  14. Where is there any assumption at all? Most of my post is blabbering about how annoying the Tanaka saga has been.
  15. I didn't say anything about them pissing. Just a picture in general. They did combine to bring 3 rings to Boston. What are you, a Yankees fan? Every boy and girl in New England should have a picture of Cherrington in their bed room. Adults too. He walked into that one
  16. .. but it is your fault that you don't have a picture of BC in YOUR bedroom.
  17. Stephen Drew was a .800 OPS hitter once he was post-concussion. Fred, I don't know how you can't see what a minefield that infield is. WMB could fizzle, Xander might need more time, Pedroia might hurt himself during the baseball's first unassisted quadruple-play. Napoli's hips are still lingering. Ortiz is almost 40. No team gets through a full season without losing plenty of games at certain positions so there will be opportunities if Drew is willing to move around a bit.
  18. Anyone know if WMB has options left?
  19. One report saying the cubs may be willing to go up to 8/200 for Tanaka. Just sign already so the rest of free agency can happen. I know it is a first-world problem, but Tanaka is singlehandedly screwing up baseball player family plans by holding up the market. Some of these players are going to have to less than two weeks to figure out where they are going to live before spring training. More importantly, I am impatient.
  20. Are you sure it is exempt? I am reading over the rules and can find no reason why it would be.
  21. Toronto has the #11 pick in the draft. I do not think they will find Stephen Drew to be worth a pick that low.
  22. New report that 6 teams are deep into the Tanaka pursuit. NYY, LAD, CHW, CHC, ARI, and a mystery team have all made 100+ million dollar offers, and now Tanaka has to decide on which one to choose. Strange that we get so many details... these kinds of things aren't usually that blatant.
  23. Shirts with sleeves cost more money than shirts without sleeves. Makes for more NBA money.
  24. Theo has publically said that if he can sign young players to long term deals -- he just doesn't like handing them out to older players. A 7 year deal puts Tanaka at 32/33. Tanaka hits his prime when the Cubs are ready to make a go of it... or they trade him for huge prospects in a year or two.
  25. Tanaka got a big offer from the Cubs, but he's not accepting it. This feels like Anibel Sanchez all over again... the Cubs are driving up the price for a free agent, who isn't taking them seriously.
