  1. So if he got hurt during the ALCS, why did he suck so much in the ALDS?
  2. Lester absolutely spanked the Angels in the series prior. You can't blame a guy who went 0-2 in games where his teams scored 1 run, and 1 run.
  3. The Red Sox had a team stocked full of talent for so many years. Manny and Papi were a huge force in the lineup for the better part of a decade. Youkilis, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Lester, Varitek, some Schilling. Papelbon, even Bard and Okajima etc etc. If they added a different top starter, I think they very well could have had even more success in the postseason. Josh Beckett started three games in the 2008 playoffs and had an ERA in the 8.50's throughout. If they replaced him with some 5.50 ERA loser they may have very well made the World Series that year.
  4. In all fairness, it is the offseason haha. I used to hold the Beckett trade in high regard, but the more I look at the money spent, prospect cost, and his numbers, I question it. He had three seasons in the 5.00+ ERA range with the Red Sox. The Red Sox had such a strong core of players in those years that I seriously wonder if maybe the team would have done better without him.
  5. By all means, the Red Sox have succeeded with the players they received, but there is still plenty of lost value. Vmart gave the Red Sox roughly 4-5 WAR, whereas Masterson has produced about 12 WAR. But then again, VMart brought in Matt Barnes and Henry Owens, so hard to argue with that trade. The Beckett trade is a tossup. Championships are the end goal, but Beckett cost significant prospects for mostly mixed results, and organizational shame. Hanley and Sanchez have been combining for 10 WAR a year lately. I would still make the trade, but at that cost, they might as well have traded for Halladay or Felix.
  6. Orioles pick up Yoon. What is it with them and meh pitchers? It seems like their whole rotation is full of #4 pitchers.
  7. I completely forgot to say it after Mo and Andy retired. And then there was one. The dynasty ends with Jeter.
  8. Trading away Masterson, Arroyo, and Sanchez certainly has hurt the team's pitching depth over the years. Not a deep burn, but it still hurts.
  9. If you look at his career numbers, it seems like he gets hammered by good offenses. 5.60 ERA against the Yankees, rough numbers in Philly, Baltimore, etc. Great numbers against them Cubbies, San Francisco Giants, Mets. Clearly he was a product of his environment.
  10. The Red Sox used to love trading mediocre pitching talent for key pieces. Gabbard for Gagne. Masterson for VMart. Anibel Sanchez for Beckett. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. It seems like they have been burned enough lately that they don't plan on wasting any more young talent on bad trades.
  11. I have always been a huge Olympics fan. I watch every minute I can. We actually started a 2014 Olympics Fantasy League at work, and it has been a ton of fun.
  12. Kazakhstan has something crazy like 50 athletes, really unexpected.
  13. There is a mystery team trying to get Ervin Santana. Smells like the Yankees to me.
  14. Haha Fred -- I am just saying that depth is important EVERYWHERE on your team, not just pitching.
  15. Fortunately that's the great part of adding multiple players with top-talent potential. Sometimes one ends up with negative WAR, and the other ends up having the lowest WHIP in history.
  16. Stephen Drew my friend, Stephen Drew.
  17. Also from the same report, they looked at Hanrahan too. Depth never hurts.
  18. This has been reported in the past as well. It makes plenty of sense, but I wonder if other teams will stand for it. When owners collectively got together put spending limits on international free agents, it was meant to prevent this kind of behavior. After bailing the Yankees out of Arod's contract, it would be awful to see the MLB bail the Yankees out of a s***-poor farm system too.
  19. Johhny Gomes got a new tattoo. Wowza. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bf42XGhIAAADaRv.jpg
  20. He seems like a pretty chill guy. Every time I hear how old he is (30 at the moment, but I have heard it over the years) I am always surprised. He's accomplished so much, so early. Hopefully he does well with the Brewers.
  21. Brewers sign KRod. Ayala also off the board.
  22. Lester one of the firsts to arrive to camp, as usual. XB, WMB, Miller, Wilson, Nava there too. Jackie Bradley reportedly arrived in December. Xander got #2 on his back. Let Spring Training begin!
  23. Mariners sign Rodney. All the top tier reliever options are off the market.
  24. Apparently Boras wants to get 3 years from the Red Sox for Drew. Can't blame the guy for trying.
  25. I can't remember a Red Sox team with the kind of pitching depth that this team has. It seemed like we had so many years watching awful pitching throw games away. It doesnt seem like that is the case anymore.
