    I am sure you understand that the Yankees must operate the same way. When was the last time they wholesaled players for prospects? Its not easy to swallow for the fanbase, although that after a World Series, it will be one of the few chances the Red Sox get to do something like this. This is a big part of why I think the Red Sox should go for Stanton. The fans might not stomach trading Lester/Koji for prospects, but trading them for a big power bat for both now and the future would get value for their guys and still keep fans as happy as possible in a losing season.

    In all fairness, most of those teams teams with Manny, Ortiz, Youk, Nomar, Lowell, Ellsbury, Pedroia etc were the best offenses in baseball by a long shot -- which the 2013 Red Sox were. Its not the steroid era anymore so offenses are much different. There are only a handful of teams in baseball where Napoli would hit any lower than 4h or 5th right now, but all of those top offenses already have 1B. The 2015 Red Sox will be back. They have too much financial flexibility and farm talent to just sit around. If the Sox don't sign Lester-- Price, Scherzer and Shields are out there too.

    Lester vs Price tomorrow. I bet all the scouts in the majors will be watching that game, with GMs everywhere drooling at their playoff hopes.

    The FO reporting that trade talks with Lester are done. Time to make the trade that everyone will be talking about. Lester + Koji for prospects, those prospects + more prospects for Stanton.

    Here are some gems from Buchholz's season: 4.1 IP, 13 H, 6 ER 2.1 IP, 7 H, 6 ER 4.1 IP, 10 H, 6ER 4.2 IP, 9 H 4 ER, 5 R 3 IP, 6 H, 8 BB, 6 ER. Since coming back from the DL, he has given up 4+ runs in four of his six starts. Meanwhile, Ranaudo has a 2.54 ERA in AAA.

    Clay "Batting Practice" Buchholz with a 5 pitch 5th inning. It would be great to see him get away with a QS and a W here, despite the start to the game.

    Pedroia is going to get some hate because of the big contract. Still, I find it hard to argue with the 2.4 WAR in 100 games of an off year.

    Can't win them all. Hopefully we see good-Buchholz tomorrow, and then we're back to Lester-Rubby-Lackey for some quality starts.

    Normally I prefer Red Sox tv commentators, but Toronto's are pretty level headed and mostly unbiased -- I am enjoying them quite a bit.

    What else is new? I predict he hits .300/.350/.550 the rest of the year.

    Posturing, probably. The Red Sox FO must know that Peavy is probably around 7 or 8 on the Red Sox starting depth chart right now. No reason to keep Workman in Pawtucket, unless they are working him back into the bullpen.

    Toronto announcers just mentioned Red Sox's 17 hits is a season high.

    Hutchinson saw his ERA go from 4.10 o 4.54. Brad Mills saw his ERA go from 4.41 to 7.85.

    Really hope the Red Sox can knock Mills out of the game. Its a shame to knock out a starter early to be stalled by a middle reliever. Humiliating the Jays here would be preferable.

    You always talk about these gigantic contracts being insured, but I've never seen any proof of this. All the articles I have read place big restrictions on them. High deductibles. 3 year limits on insurance policies, and any new insurance policies factor in all previous injuries. Older players -- which most of the Yankees are -- have much higher premiums. And seriously, when was the last time individuals had an easy time collecting on insurance policies?
