  1. Dice-K is a lot better than Sox fans give him credit for. over his career, he has averaged almost 6IP. He came in 4th for Cy Young his last healthy season, and pitched incredibly well once healthy in 2009. Under normal circumstances, I'd give Wake a shot, but with VMart catching, 1.64 WHIP aint gonna cut it.
  2. Now if only Francona could hear you....
  3. Hmm, wasn't Spiller predicted around the 20s? Extremely low value on that one.
  4. Ah, definitely misread that there!
  5. First time actually getting to watch the game(outside of stupid yes) ! Being stuck in New York for the next month, I've had to watch gamecast. If I'm traveling for long periods I just get mlb.tv, but i was slow this year, and I finally picked it up today.
  6. Ofcourse its not fault, but it is his fault that he let more runs score after that. He's still young and his confidence issues have an impact on his pitching sometimes.
  7. Clay gave up 4 unearned runs last time out, which shows that he still has a bit of a problem dealing with pressure situations, ie the defense failing on him. I still think he deserves a spot before Wake, who is going to be a huge stolen base liability, and long before Itch and Shoe. Throwing him back to triple A will only stunt his development and they know that. Last year, he was dominating so hard in Pawtucket, and it sounded like he kind of got bored there and stopped throwing so well because of that.
  8. Maybe the stats don't show that Ortiz only hit lesser pitchers, but I was there for the game on May 20th last year. That was the game he hit his first home run of the season against Brett Cecil, and well... Bay hit one, Lowell hit one, and Varitek hit two. It stuck out in my mind that Ortiz hit one of FIVE homeruns that day against extremely lousy pitching. Maybe he needs to hit against a crummy pitcher to get his head straight?
  9. Papi needs to swallow his pride and accept a short stint in Triple A, despite what his contract says. He's wasting a roster spot right now, even though he's capable of great second half numbers. He should just get himself together and come back later in the season, otherwise RSN will turn on him completely.
  10. In all fairness, he only caught 55 games during Cliff Lee's Cy Young season. But you are absolutely right, when guys like CC, Lee, and Lester are on, and locating their pitches, it really doesn't matter who is catching. In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if VMart costs .5 to 1 runs a game for a guy with slow pitches like Wakefield, but its not VMarts slow reaction time that's costing so many runs at this point, its the starting rotation sucking, and until the rotation warms up, there is no way we can know how relevent he is to runs scored.
  11. I'm not worried. The Sox have Darnell McDonald on their side!
  12. Well, he's having a pretty good season off the bench. Maybe someone will treat him seriously?
  13. Why mention Cabrera when Toronto picked up Al-gon for 2.7 million? We'd have a gold glove infield for a fraction of the price without really hurting the offense much at all.
  14. I don't know how he keeps it up. Even on the rare occasion when he makes a good point, he still gets bashed. Keeps things interesting at least?
  15. Well, they have had a cement glove in left field for atleast ten years.
  16. As the Sox dig themselves into a bigger hole, Mike Cameron has been found to have an abdominal strain and will be going to the 15 day DL, Ellsbury is still hurt and Reddick has been called up for now. In the last 5 seasons, Jermaine Dye has hit 27 or more home runs. He's had some decent seasons. He fell apart at the second half of last season but still performed pretty well overall. Based on reports, the Sox could probably get him for as low as anywhere 2-5 mill for one season, and are probably going to hit the salary cap anyway. Dye is desperate, and going to a possible contender as a key contributer is always a plus for most players. What's the general opinion, sign him, or give Reddick a chance?
  17. But at the same time, I think they've been getting complacent. When you win two titles for the first time in a longggg time, they've been given a little too much of a security blanket. 2010 is supposedly a bridge year, but how many impact players have popped up recently? The only significant Sox players that I can think of that have reached the major league roster in 2008 and 2009 have been Bard, and Masterson. Everyone else on the roster now debuted 2007 or earlier. After the 2007 season, and after 2008 season, their offseason moves never really panned out. I'm not saying crucify them, but I don't think we should ignore their shortcomings.
  18. How long is generally fair to wait before it officially isn't early in the season?
  19. The difference is that we have a top front office that doesn't make mistakes... oh wait.
  20. No, I do know where Lowell came from and how the whole situation is working, you took my post wayyy too literally, please don't be a dick. The point is that the majority of players coming from outside of the organization have been a waste of money.
  21. When was the last time they did well with free agents? All of the latest big contracts-- Daisuke, Lowell, Lugo, Smoltz, and so on have been big failures. When it comes to big free agents the front office fails to pay them or keep them happy. Look at 2009-- With all the money the team has, only two difference makers came from outside of the organization-- Bay and Beckett, but the price for both was incredibly steep. I have no problem with how the farm system has been handled, but with free agency, the last two or three years have been resounding failures.
  22. Well, he was in Cleveland when both Cliff Lee and C.C. Sabathia won Cy Youngs. Sure, he didn't catch a lot of Cliff's, but hey, it still says something.
