  1. Huge strikeout on Bautista right there.
  2. He made four starts in 2011 and has an ERA of 5.12 during that time. That may be slightly better than the other starters, but by losing him from the bullpen, it is still a net loss.
  3. Aceves hasn't thrown more than 50 pitches since June. It isn't happening. They want him in the pen.
  4. Beckett, Lester, Bedard, Lackey. People aren't going to be happy about it, but Miller/Wakefield are not better options. They have an equal opportunity to fail, and less chance to be great.
  5. The problem isn't whether or not A-gon can make plays. If a ball comes near him, he has more than enough glove to cover it. The problem is that is so slow that he can't cover enough ground to get to many balls that Reddick would. We're talking 2-3 outs per game, and that adds up quick.
  6. Last year when he was very high in QS%, quality starts were overrated. This year when he's low in them, they're very relevant. Four of his starts were fairly close ( 5.2 IP--3 ER, 7 IP--4 ER, 6.2 ER 4 ER, 8 IP 4 ER), and two were 6 IP 4 ER outings. Any of those starts should win games for a team with this kind of offense. SS, you're always advocating for pitchers that will go more innings and throw more pitches. Lackey is that kind of guy. The offense has a bad habit of taking some nights off. They rarely ever take the night off when John Lackey is pitching. I think there is a value in a pitcher that the batters are really fighting for, because they know what he's going through. I know the sabermetric guys will argue that logic, but I have heard atleast five or six different members of the Red Sox that have publicly had Lackey's back throughout his personal issues.
  7. Give a bid of $1. Leak information that they bid high.
  8. I really don't see the Red Sox going after another Japanese national treasure. Maybe they'll drive the price up, but they really don't want that headache again.
  9. Can the Red Sox last two more years with this sellout streak?
  10. Congratulations to Bedard for his first win with the Boston Red Sox. May it be the first of many more.
  11. Reddick on base five times tonight.
  12. Salty is looking more and more like the real deal.
  13. Big DP in the first!
  14. Anyone watching this one?
  15. VA, you don't seem the Trick Daddy type
  16. I think it was actually far worse last year when there wasn't much of the team left standing. It felt like all of the more optimistic people sort of factioned off into our own conversations and let the rest complain. Maybe we should do that again.
  17. Just to be clear, I didn't pick three arbitrary months, those are just Drew's three most recent months, since he didn't play in August.
  18. Drew has pretty much dropped off since May 1st though. Drew's OPSs in May, June, and July were .595, .610 and .445 respectively. I would argue that there is a lot more value in letting a young guy get the work in and try to figure it out instead of trying to make a veteran play who probably would prefer just to retire, and is playing like it.
  19. Reddick's defense in RF has been absolutely excellent, as far as the numbers show. Beltran, not so much.
  20. Wakefield> Miller.
  21. Doesn't matter. He's a platoon player, so if he hits well in that situation, I'll still be pleasantly surprised by those numbers, considering the production we used to be getting from him.
  22. On the pitch chart, it looked like the ball's top left corner was just touching the very edges of the bottom right corner of the zone. It was a really close call, IMO.
