  1. The reason Beckett has that reputation is because when he is turned on, he can pitch just as well as any ace in the MLB. The problem is, he only does it on odd years, and for stretches at a time.
  2. I have actually been thinking long and hard about the possibility of trading Beckett, for many of the same reasons we've been talking about trading Ellsbury. He overperformed in 2011, he is a pretty big injury risk, he has a big name, he costs a ton, and he has serious trade value. With the chemistry issues, and his even-year issues, he may be available this offseason.
  3. If the Cubs hire Theo as their GM, it would be a huge mistake. In the next two years, they will trim a sizeable amount of payroll off their team. 134 million payroll in 2011, 72 signed so far for 2012, and 28 signed for 2013. The Cubs are going to have an absolute ton of money to work with, with A-ram, Zambrano, Dempster, Fukodome, Pena and a few other big dollar players are going to be off the roster. Theo's strength is drafting prospects and building them for the future, but has a severe weakness when it comes to spending money on established MLB players. I would not give 60-80 million dollars worth of free agents per year in 2013 to Theo's hands.
  4. VMart had a great season, but he's no catcher.
  5. I may or may not have e-mailed it to fifteen different people who asked for it
  6. I don't think we should discount the fight he had with Manny Ramirez a few years back. I think there is a difference between being intense, and too intense.
  7. Right, because we should compare saying "come on, you should have made that play" to beating the s*** out of someone you love. Yeah, great comparison, especially since Lackey beat his cancer-ridden wife. He actually punched her while wearing radioactive gloves, which gave her the cancer, and caused the miscarriage. Seriously, that is what some of you sound like.
  8. Tito and Theo were very very thorough about Lackey's actions on the field. They explicitly went out of their way to defend him, and emphasized the point that he has been an excellent teammate, and Lackey will go to the player that he made those gestures to, and apologize to them the day after the game.
  9. a700... did you just put Crawford at shortstop?
  10. I'm sorry if his .299 average isn't good enough for you.
  11. The Red Sox give up Youk, Reddick, Lavarnway, and take 26 million of another bust pitcher for Cain? Yikes.
  12. I do not see Youkilis and Lavarnway being traded. Going into 2011, righthanded offense was a big concern. Ortiz's favorable splits helped the situation, but in light of the character issues in this clubhouse, it sounds like he'll be gone. Losing all three of those players would be a very big problem for the organization offensively.
  13. So, they haven't decided yet.
  14. Maybe not, but if the Reds were the team that were wiling to pay so much for an unproven player who had never played a single MLB game, they must be incredibly high on him. He has "untouchable unless absolutely overwhelmed in a deal" status, and I don't think Chapman is the guy you give up Ranaudo, Lavarnway +1 for.
  15. Honestly, I think this team is best off getting rid of as many players from 2007 as they can. Replace them with guys who are hungry. How many times have we seen the old heroes of this team go out and bitch publicly? It has happened frequently. Ortiz, Wakefield, Varitek, Papelbon, and maybe even Youkilis should go, as a changing of the guard. And in that light, I think hiring Schilling as a manager may be too soon.
  16. Brad Pitt taking over for Theo... hmm...
  17. I was all for getting rid of him, but I agree, he needs to be sent off for who he is. A guy who brought the Red Sox wins and championships.
  18. I would say Chapman is an untouchable right now-- one of those players worth significantly more to a team than another team trying to trade for him. They did risk 30 million dollars on him afterall.
  19. Way to go Terry.
  20. Tigers in three.
