  1. When you take away Papelbon's ability to close out big games, what does he have? A 3.00 ERA over the last three years, and generally great-- but not elite-- numbers. Rivera has a full ERA point over Papelbon from 2009-2011. A full point. Scott Downs, who earned his keep in Toronto, has a better ERA over the last three years. And yet, Papelbon was just handed the richest contract for any closer ever. Why? Because he has the ability to close big games.... oh wait....
  2. +1 How about overpaying for the team's best franchise knuckleballer?
  3. Yeah, definitely agree with you. Put into perspective: The Red Sox appear to have lost their closer for what sounds like will be somewhere between five and ten games. The Yankees have lost a valuable setup man for an entire season, and their number two starter is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury after showing low velocity all spring.
  4. What evidence is there for that? All the interviews with him make him seem like he cared much more about himself than the team.
  5. If I had a dollar for every time someone whined about not overpaying Papelbon, the mega millions lottery would be overrated.
  6. The reality is, you have to use players where they give the most value. Bard will be a decent starter, or an elite reliever. Cook or Padilla will be a decent starter or a decent reliever. That's the difference that I see.
  7. They really need to put Bard back into the bullpen and have Cook start. It solves all of the problems.
  8. Bailey is out for a thumb injury.
  9. 1B - Agon 2B - Pedroia 3B - Youk SS - Aviles C - Salty OF - Ellsbury OF - Ross OF - Sweeney DH - Ortiz Bench - McDonald Bench - Shoppach Bench - Punto SP1) Lester SP2) Beckett SP3) Buchholz SP4) Doubront SP5) Bard RP) Bailey RP) Melancon RP) Aceves RP) Bowden RP) Albers RP) Morales RP) Padilla Bullpen potentials -- Cook, Atchison, Ohlendorf, Thomas. Notable DL - Kalish/Crawford/Dice-k Notable Minor Leaguers -- Iggy, Middlebrooks, Lavs, Wilson, Mortensen That bullpen looks mighty weak is Bailey gets hurt.
  10. Good for him. Here's to health!
  11. In both Oakland and Seattle, it is 3 AM. Baseball clearly has the worst league officials in any major sport. Selig should not have been in control all this time.
  12. Ladies and gentleman, we have baseball! It is a little odd that it started at 6 in the morning, but hey, it still counts.
  13. I stopped here. I almost always enjoy reading your posts, but this is just silly. :harhar:
  14. If you don't rely on gold gloves, what do you rely on? All statistics that we have at our disposal say that Agon, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Crawford and Punto are all very good defensively. There is zero credibility in the eye-test.
  15. I disagree with this. What position are the Red Sox weak defensively? They had gold glovers at CF, 1B, and 2B last year. Their LF won a gold glove in 2010. They picked up a good defensive C and a good defensive middle infielder this offseason. They gave out a monstrous signing bonus to a guy in Iggy who doesn't have a bat whatsoever. They signed Mike Cameron because they thought he was going to be good defensively. They have a middle of the order bat sitting in the minor leagues because they want him to improve his defense. I simply don't see any argument that could be made about the Red Sox disregarding defense.
  16. When evaluating players, you have to look at all five statistics. Stubbs is good in two categories, and average to poor in the other three. The reason why McCutchen is valuable is because he's good--but not great-- in five categories. That being said, I accepted a trade for Matt Holliday. He's the guy I wanted all along with my 3rd round pick.
  17. I'll consider it, but I think I would need a little bit more value than that. He was my third round pick afterall.
  18. Anyone have interest in Andrew McCutchen? I decided that I don't want him-- if anyone wants to trade a high-tier Outfielder one-for-one, let me know.
  19. I routinely pick Yankee players early. Its a win-win for me. Either they suck, and they suck for the Yankees, or they don't suck, and while it is kind of s*****, atleast I'm winning fantasy points.
  20. Ouch. How good are your autodraft settings?
  21. Tavarez would have been mine as well.
  22. Ryan Madson getting Tommy John Surgery. The Bailey trade is starting to look even better....
