Every now and then, Dice-k pitches lots of strikes during a game. No coincidence, batters hit a ton of home runs off him during those games too.

He also can opt out and go to another team if he doesn't make the major league roster. What is better-- Cook in the bullpen and Bard in the rotation, or Bard in the bullpen and cook in the rotation? I think it is a no-brainer, and has been for weeks.

Aaron Cook has a 1.33 ERA in AAA right now. Clearly he's going into the rotation.

Papelbon's stats had been just so unimpressive over the last three years. I don't blame them for the trade though. It makes sense, but if they fail to resign Hamels, it'll tell you everything you need to know about the Papelbon contract.

For that kind of money, I'd take Mark Buerhle over Papelbon every time. Every single time.

Signing Papelbon was a desperation move for the Phillies. They've depleted their farm in big trades, and have overextended their payroll. They want a championship, and their window is closing. So, they filled their biggest hole with the best guy available... even if it will cripple their team in years to come, and probably prevent them from resigning Cole Hamels. Seriously, if you have to chose between Hamels and Papelbon, is it any contest?

Yes, the worst ever. You don't give 50 million to relievers. Even if he throws Hall of Fame numbers he won't be able to earn that value. We've had this argument about ten times, and the simple fact is, he isn't the best reliever of all time. He's not even in the top 10 relievers of all time. And somehow he's got the biggest contract for a reliever of all time.

Didn't your mother ever tell you... two wrongs don't make a right? They've completely and utterly mismanaged contracts in the past to the point it is destroying the franchise. And your solution is to give out the absolute worst contract in the history of baseball?

Its a shame they didn't trade Bowden for an elite pitcher when they had the chance But this is a good move. Apparently they are actually saving salary by picking him up haha

Yeah, I've always thought that was weird. My dad used to always take me to the Fenway stop with all the tourists. Last year, I used to laugh at them all getting off early. Nowadays I just walk from work. -
