  1. Sounds like you've forgotten about the 2012 unoffical NL Batting Champion, Melky Cabrera.
  2. He worked extensively with Saltalmacchia on his throwing mechanics:blink:
  3. Sounds like Lavarnway slept with Gary Tuck's wife.
  4. Every team in baseball is stuck with s***** contracts. But the Yankees think they're special and can void A-rod's? MLB free agency needs to be restructured, but until then they need to follow the rules like everyone else.
  5. If it weren't for advanced statistics, a guy coming off a season with an ERA in low 1.00s would be getting a closer/setup job this year. I just figured that those factors would push him to a middle rotation role. Remember back in 2010, when the Red Sox had two elite relievers, Scott Atchison, and a pile of garbage behind? That trade deadline, I looked over the list of relievers with ERAs between 3.00 and 4.00, and had trouble finding any options that wouldn't cost insane money or prospects. As a gritty relief option who threw multiple innings 12 times last year, I believed he deserved better.
  6. You'll find that if you make intelligent posts, and respect others here, you will receive respect in turn. I have been very active in the forums for a few years, and while there are a handful of disagreements, I very much enjoy the community here. When the mods get back from offseason-vacation some of these disagreements will settle down.
  7. Youkilis, Jeter and Gardner all had significant health issues in 2012, and expecting career numbers from them might not be realistic. Granderson, Texiera, and Cano will probably have good seasons, but I just don't see any kind of depth from the Yankees. Ichiro moves from a backup role to a starting role. Romine is unproven and could take some time to accustom to the majors. The Yanks have no designated hitter. Its a very top heavy lineup that is one or two injuries from being punchless. The offense should be a wash, maybe advantage Boston because of depth. The Yankees do have better starting pitching, but it is very topheavy. The Red Sox's bullpen is head and shoulders above the Yankees.
  8. The only thing I ever say against Rivera is this: He can't do this forever. He turns 43 this year. At some point he has to give, and last year we saw that. The guy has had a routine for 15 years, and for the first time in his career, he has to find a way to adjust and rebuild. Robertson is a lock. Logan is solid. But everyone else? They're year to year players. Sometimes they do well, sometimes they suck. Aardsma is a flyball pitcher in Yankee stadium. The Yankees bullpen isn't what it was in 2012, and you know it.
  9. Just a simple request-- please try to break up posts like this. As far as the starting pitching, we know CC is going to be a beast. But there are a good number of concerns with the advanced ages of Kuroda and Pettite. Pettite hasn't pitched a full season since 2009. Nova and Phelps are decent back-end filler, but I don't see them turning into difference makers. Buchholz and Hughes have very similar inning patterns over the last four years, but Clay is the one who has shown he can be dominant over the course of a year. You also have to worry about Hughes getting hurt again-- just as much as the Red Sox should worry. Buchholz over the last 4 years: 537 innings, 3.62 ERA Hughes over the last 4 years: 528, 4.24 ERA
  10. Maybe you haven't noticed... but the Yankees have gotten one year older, and have done significantly more subtraction than addition. They lost Swisher, Martin, Chavez, Soriano, Garcia, Jones, and Ibanez. Arod is out for most of the season, and the player replacing him is just as injury prone. Jeter and Rivera are coming off season ending injuries. The #2 starter on the team is 38 years old, and the #3 is 42. Most of the Yankee's top prospects ended last season in A ball. Banuelos is out with Tommy John. The Yankee's current bench hit a combined .650 in 2013. The Yankees have just as many question marks as the Red Sox, but with none of the depth.
  11. I'm just surprised that he took a minor league job for a crappy team. Is there really no one out there willing to give a 500k flier on a guy coming off a great season, and has been pretty solid over the last three years with a 3.18 ERA/ 1.16 WHIP? That's a pretty good line for a reliever who would be 7th or 8th on your depth chart.
  12. That's how it goes with 37 year old journeymen relief pitchers with injury concerns. I'm surprised that he couldn't find a major league job, or atleast a minor league job with a contender.
  13. Generally 37 year old players are less concerned about their careers, and more about stability and their family. Looking at it realistically, there are currently 8 major league caliber relievers who will be fighting for 7 spots. Bailey, Lackey and Buchholz will probably get hurt or become ineffective early on in the season, and be replaced by Morales, Aceves, and the pitcher who was moved to the minors. That leaves two open spots for relievers. Athicson would have to compete with De la Rosa, Webster, Bard, Wilson, and Mortensen for those spots, but not all of them will be relievers, and more players could get injured
  14. Atchison has always been a plan C or D on the Red Sox, but he's always found himself with plenty of playing time. Its not like he went to the Angels or a franchise with any playoff hopes.
  15. If the Red Sox talked about Lars as a legitimate prospect at the time, it was in a way to paint a nice picture of him before trying to trade him. He had an awful year in 2009 that showed his prospect stock completely plummet. It also started to become apparent that his raw power wasn't translating into power numbers at the plate. This was all common knowledge at the time, and if you look back at the discussions at Talksox from 2009-2010, they would reflect that.
  16. Okay, this is ridiculous. Can't even given Atchison a minor league contract?

The Nats were very late in the draft though-- 28th or 29th. They'll be competing for a World Series next year so it makes sense.
  18. We're talking about 2010, not 2008. At the time of the trade, it was well established that Rizzo was on the rise, and Anderson was falling fast. Everyone from Baseball America, Sox Prospects, to Bleacher Report had realized it. If they valued Lars Anderson so highly, they wouldn't have tried to trade him for the lowly and injury-prone Rich Harden six month later.
  19. Oh dear. Are you the person I've been spending all this time arguing against? Clearly I've been wasting my time.
  20. I missed this post last month, but I'll comment on it anyway. Fixed.
  21. This situation is identical to the Gonzalez situation. The only difference is that instead of costing three very good prospects, he'll cost five, maybe six. If Stanton is available for any less than that, there must be a reason he's being shopped. Not sure what you're talking about with Kelly-- he showed plenty of potential in the minors. He's young enough that he can definitely bounce back from a few mediocre games in the minors.
  22. That's like saying the Tigers have the best bench because of Cabrera and Fielder.
  23. Pro-tip, only the tourists get off at Fenway. The park is actually closer to Kenmore.
  24. http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/subway/ It is a lot less confusing than it looks. The blue line gets you to the airport, and the green line gets you to the core of the city, like the North End, Fenway Park, Bank North Garden etc.
