    I ask because it seems like most of the offseason acquisitions from other teams have turned into failures. Colon was the only one I could think to top KU/ MC.

    The defense has been incredible today. Great play by Gomes to protect the tie.

    Great start from Workman! Getting a win from him would be more than enough for me tonight.

    Great defensive play by Pedroia to keep Workman alive. Pitch count is scary right now, but would love to see this.

    Best case scenario, Webster's spot in the rotation consists of only one, maybe two more starts anyway.

    Where is everyone? Its the first game played at a reasonable hour in weeks, pretty happy to get to watch one after a hiatus.

    It may not have been a great move, but I'd argue it was the right move. How often do we see the Red Sox suddenly lose a player and have a need, and they swoop in, get a solid replacement, and avoid trading top shelf prospects or mlb talent?

    Oh man, playoff tickets. That's wishful thinking, but if they go, so will I.

    I'll probably keep bringing this up... but the Rays have an insane end of the season. 36 games in 37 days, with the day off being a travel day from Seattle to Tampa. Several series versus AL East teams, a west coast trip, and a long series at the Rangers. The Sox just need to keep winning, and Rays should wear down, hopefully.

    94-68. The bullpen has taken a number of blows, with Hanrahan, Miller, Wilson and Morales (probably) out for the season. They likely need to find not one but two replacements if they want to hold onto their momentum.

    Cecil has been crazy lucky this year. Low BABIP, high strand rate, and a 5ish ERA in the 4 years prior to this one. Definitely not a guy you want to overpay to get through the division.

    At what point do the Yanks realize that reinforcements ain't coming and cash in their trade chips? They're probably good enough to make the playoffs... but the bar for the organization is set much higher than that. When you have a top 5 player heading to free agency in Cano, it might be worthwhile to see who is the most desperate.

    After all the s*** Steven Wright has gotten, its great to see him be the player of the game, and make a big impact on this one. Might be the only time, but hey, huge part in this win.

    Steven Wright trimmed 8 runs off his ERA, and got his first win in 5.2 shutout innings. Red Sox!!!!

    Two back-to-back sac flies. I can't remember the last time that happened.

    Very encouraging plate appearance for Napoli. Down 0-2, fouls off some borderline pitches, and eventually draws the walk.

    With Aceves and Webster going down to the farm, it means they need another starter. Perhaps they changed their mind about Workman and want him to start? He's a great guy to showcase IMO. Over the last ten years, the Red Sox have loved trading #5 type starters for key pieces at the deadline. Sure, Arroyo and Masterson have gone back to bite them in the ass, but it makes a lot of sense to trade back end starters because cheap major league pitching is valuable, but not guys you want starting playoff games.
