  1. Johnson's not a long-term investment, but neither is Hideki Matsui. The man's going to be 36 years old, while Nick Johnson is only 30. It doesn't just go one way. They have about the same OPS, and Johnson even has a +1 OPS+ on Matsui. Yeah, nothing too big, but it's still something of an equalizer for the .003 advantage Matsui holds in OPS. I think you're selling Nick Johnson way too short. Just because he's not a big name, doesn't mean he's not good enough to play for the Yankees. Wang's ERA was nearly 10. I don't see how bringing him back is an impact move.
  2. No, there are tons of reasons, as Dipre pointed out before. A new stadium, expansion of payroll, Wanting to keep fans, rather than losing tons of them, etc. Joe Mauer is a franchise player, and expanding the payroll from 65M to 90-100M would mean we'd have enough, and then some.
  3. I think we can all agree on this: Adrian Gonzales' production would go up at Fenway Park from Petco Park, and fairly significantly as well.
  4. Agreed with Spudboy. There is speculation, and the Sox could definitely put together something that would interest the Tigers, especially considering they've been interested in sort of rebuilding, and cutting some money out from all of those bad contracts.
  5. I think trying to say that guys who are that close in statistics, and Lackey even having more experience, with those similar statistics, while Jacko can state that the other (Beckett) has "more of a track record" than Lackey shows a lot of bias.
  6. The Twins have said publicly that they're talking about expanding the payroll closer to about 90-100M, which would allow them to put down a massive deal for Mauer to remain with the Twins. Especially considering they're at around 65-70M right now. Also, don't forget, Mauer has also stated that he wishes to be with the Twins, even if it means making less than he would elsewhere. The man's dedicated to Minnesota, because it's where he's played and lived his entire life. The guy's the hometown kid, and losing him would mean a huge hit for the Twins, in more than one way. No one here would know this, but actually, Pohlad's son is every bit the prick his dad was.
  7. Yeah, I sort of had a respect for Matsui, just like I have respect for Derek Jeter. I have absolutely no respect for Alex Rodriguez, though. For obvious reasons.
  8. Nope, and I agree with you on that. My expectations=/=Media expectations.
  9. ROFL!
  10. True enough, but that rotation: Gotta love it. Even if we do just end up with another Adrian (Beltre), it's still a helluva good lineup in my view. Anyways, I won't hijack this topic. 14=1/2 of 28. I iz smart.
  11. Most of those homers were to right, as well. I think the advantage of Fenway still stands, although, maybe not as significantly as I thought before?
  12. No, it was a poor choice of words, although I've meant he was a bust so far, as in, not lived up to universal expectations. I'm not saying he's a bust overall. You really can't tell until at least given a year or two of NBA experience. Not even Ryan Leaf was a bust through a quarter of a season.
  13. Yeah, but he was a defensive liability, and we're looking to upgrade. I think it's best to move on and get what we can, while he still has some value. He's definitely lost a step.
  14. Not if Adrian Gonzalez, John Lackey, and Mike Cameron have anything to say about it :harhar:
  15. I agree that he's playing well, but he hasn't matched the hype. My expectations of him weren't as high, because I'm a part T-Wolves fan, and I'm pretty pessimistic about the team, so naturally, I question any hype of any college players coming to Minnesota. I don't consider my expectations, though, to be the ones that everyone goes by. My expectations are just that, and as far as I was concerned, I thought he'd be just another Minnesota bust. His 14 PPG is fine and dandy, but it's not that hard for anyone to score 14 PPG on the Wolves, because we pretty much have no offense on the team. He also has a pretty poor FG%, the second lowest in the starting five.
  16. That'd be Bowser, Spud.
  17. He still looks just like Shemp...
  18. I second that hand clap:
  19. I referenced it once the argument starting becoming more legitimate, but it still remained about Gonzalez in all fairness. I think this all definitely says his LHP splits would improve significantly playing at such a hitters park. I think he'd approach 50 jacks in Boston, honestly.
  20. Agreed, I think both a combination of that, and like ORS said, the IBB difference is pretty significant. Otherwise, I don't think Howard's the more productive guy, because the way I see it, Pujols not only is similar in driving in runs, but is also unarguably better at NOT creating outs. The way I see it, not creating outs gives your teammates an opportunity to create runs.
  21. While he certainly is a good bat, there are also character issues there. Also, while they accepted Austin Jackson for Granderson, they also were given other prospects. Tons of them. Granted they also gave up Edwin Jackson, who is a decent pitcher, but they still got more than just Austin Jackson. Also, another thing about that, is they at first wanted Buchholz or Ellsbury for GRANDERSON. Granderson is a guy who hits a good amount of home runs, but has terrible platoon stats. I'm going to go ahead and say that if they play that game again, they'll have a similar price for Cabrera to Gonzalez.
  22. You're REALLY stretching the difference from Lackey to Beckett, dude.
  23. That's a really dangerous lineup. I mean, even without Buchholz, we've got the best rotation in baseball, no argument about that. And trading for Gonzalez automatically makes us probably the best offense in baseball. Plus, we have very good defense on the team, and arguably the best bullpen in baseball. We'd be very, very competitive with the Yankees next year if this went down. Imagine how fun it'd be watching him play at NYS.
