  1. You're just proving his point. If you want to talk intelligent baseball, and stop the hypocrisy, then feel free to do so, otherwise I think the forum would appreciate an end to the smugness. Lord knows I'm echoing the sentiments of everyone else here.
  2. Ballpark factors, my friend. Beltre's played in pitcher's parks his entire career. Not to mention, he's hit 20HR ever year pretty much since 2002 with the exception of last year. Only you could make the comparison to Ellsbury.
  3. Adam LaRoche definitely would be taking a step back, still, with all that we have to replace. He's better than Kotchman by a mile, but seriously? Replace Bay with Cameron, replace Lowell with LaRoche? You've been stating that Adrian Beltre wouldn't be an upgrade over Lowell, but LaRoche would? I don't understand that. Beltre's had similar-to-better OPS from 2006-2008, in Safeco field, and he's superior defensively.
  4. Damon and Johnson are comparable, but Damon gets the slight edge due to his edge in OPS, and OPS+ IMO, as well as he's never played under 140 games in his 14 full seasons, whereas Johnson has played in 140+ games once in 7 seasons as a regular. Matsui, well, he's vastly superior to Curtis Granderson. His career OPS and OPS+ are .852 and 124, compared to Granderson's .828 and 113, respectively.
  5. He was throwing a lot of those wicked sliders, he abused that pitch, and it cost him his arm. However, I think his other pitches were definitely filthy enough to maintain dominance if mixed well. All 4 of his pitches were a hitter's nightmare. I've never, ever seen someone with such an arsenal of filthy, wicked pitches. I had the pleasure of watching him pitch, I believe against Tampa Bay, it was him vs. then hotshot Scott Kazmir. He only gave up about 2, maybe three hits, all of them pretty weak, and nearly finished the game before Tampa started mounting a comeback. Scott Kazmir gave up a few runs over 6 or 7 innings. That was during the awesome 2006 run, where we finished the season on something like a 74-33 run. I dunno, it was 70-something and 30-something. Unbelievable for a team to go from 9 games below .500, and come back to win the division and 96 games.
  6. This is all basically about hopefulness though. I try to stick to his averages, depending on if they're consistent or not. Granderson's simply not going to be a better offensive player than Damon. Check his platoon stats, absolutely dreadful. Johnson's good, I defended him, but Matsui's last season is better than what Johnson's going to put up. You also have to consider the difference in competition from the NL East to the AL East. It's basically going from the weakest division in baseball to the best. His numbers could very well drop, and I think his health status is a legitimate concern.
  7. He's played in the bullpen, and wasn't very good. He was terrible as a starter, and maybe only slightly better in the bullpen. His fastball velocity from 2006 was consistently around the mid-to-upper nineties, while his wicked slider would reach around 90-91 consistently. Absolutely deadly pitches, not to mention his curve was in the mid-to-upper 80's as well. He was throwing gas, with wicked rotations, stuff that was pretty much unhittable. He was the best pitcher in baseball, by far, in his portion of the 2006 season, and now he's a guy who can barely make it through three or four innings. I don't think moving Nathan is a good idea, especially considering what we have to replace him with. Sure, he has value, but we have no one to close games. We would have Pat Neshek, but I'm not sure what ever happened to him. I know he had a serious injury, but if he ever comes back, he'd certainly be a question mark. We don't have the bullpen depth that we had even two years ago.
  8. Of course Granderson and Johnson will improve with park effect, but OPS+ accounts for that. So, in essence, they're still downgrading from Matsui and Damon.
  9. He used to be considered a solid 4 or 5 starter. If he maintained that, he'd probably be a great addition to the Twins, and we'd have never gotten rid of him. If we did, the Red Sox would have gotten another guy to solidify the starting rotation, if we wanted to trade Buchholz. Now, however, he's terrible. 2006 Twins, he was a big part of them, as was Francisco Liriano. Both men s*** the bed, both men have little value. So yeah, not very spendy or anything, so it's not a big gamble, but who knows, maybe he'll pull a 2006 out of his ass?
  10. That's why he's a pitcher, thankfully
  11. Welcome to the forum!
  12. How ironic, you're hijacking a thread after sound, intelligent arguments have been made. If you can't do the same, then you're being a hypocrite. If you want to leave, don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya. You're welcome to leave at any time.
  13. Not to mention the run towards the end of 2009 where he looked like an ace. Buchholz has shown more signs of being capable of being a starter than Chamberlain or Hughes.
  14. Yeah, it's all about not taking it too personally, besides, I realized the legitimacy of all of that. It's no big deal.
  15. I think they're just used to your former style, and expect that, so they just live off of that. They don't really realize that you've actually changed your style significantly.
  16. Most people, myself included, consider you to be the most unbiased Yankee fan on the board. In fact, I'd say you're possibly the least biased fan of either team on the board. We're all homers at some point, I've defended the Twins when I shouldn't have, but in the end, I like to think I'm pretty unbiased as well.
  17. Yeah, but also, when things were calm, and we were having a civil discussion, Gom escalated things even further, by calling everyone who posted in this thread a stupid douchebag. I've come to expect this from Gom.
  18. I think there was a point outside of Jacko's repeated biased baiting attempts that ORS was trying to make, which he said early on in this thread.
  19. Agreed. It should be about Nick Johnson, and how this effects the Yankees, and THEIR lineup, not a dick-measuring contest between Sox and Yankees fans. Anyways, Nick Johnson's a pretty good deal, high OPS for 5.5M, and yeah, you take a risk of his injury history, but he's an absolute on-base machine.
  20. Btw, the quote button is your friend. It shows who posted the information being quote. You can edit it as you please, but it's confusing when you can't see who wrote what in the quotes.
  21. Try checking the Gonzalez=Great Deal thread. It seems as though you're taking something out of context, because as far as I know, I've never stated that I wished Gonzalez to be our starting SS. I think there were several others that were on my wishlist before him, including J.J. Hardy before he was traded to the Twins.
  22. Understood, but I don't see how that's inciteful. However, you said you're exhausted and stressed out, so maybe that impairs your judgment, not to mention you're a Yankee fan.
  23. You contributed absolutely nothing but inciteful behavior. If you want to argue baseball, do so intelligently. Attack the points of the post, rather than this one-smiley inciteful garbage. It's completely unnecessary.
