  1. Paps can make or break Francona here. LOL
  2. Fair Harvard triumphs. The Pats have a defense problem.
  3. Fundamentally, the Rays are a better team than the Red Sox right now. They have much better pitching and a better manager.
  4. I said they had a conditioning problem LAST year, when they had so many injuries. Now everybody's saying it. "Curses" are nonsense. The management had its head in the sand, thinking they could throw out Lackey, Wakefield and Miller start after start and get away with it. The stats were telling them NO. When Wake or Lackey pitches, the hitters know they have to score 8 runs to win. They can't be pleased with that. The management has become too complacent.
  5. Tito is gone. So is the rest of the coaching staff. Having the team make the lineup is almost as funny as Jimy Williams using a dartboard.
  6. stick a fork in those guys.
  7. Crawford batting 2nd today. Looks like Tito blinked. Money talks.
  8. Yeah. You can talk all you want about Theo--but he has his shortcomings, like everyone else. He passed up Millwood, a better pitcher, to keep Lackey and Wake in the rotation. Lackey is his $15 million failure. Wake is an overweight fixture. And then there's Miller, who should have pitched his way out of the bullpen from the start--instead of starting from the start. And then there's the invisible Japanese guy in Pawtucket... These are Epstein's failures-not Tito's.
  9. They need that no.3 starter. They never replaced Buchholz this year. Nor Dice-K, for that matter. Instead, they kept throwing Lackey, Wakefield and Miller out there ad nauseam. Lackey and Wakefield are bad. They have to disappear off-season. Miller gets an incomplete--he should be in AAA--and would have been there with an option available. Their big mistake was blindly throwing those three guys out there start after start, and then leaving Aceves-- a better pitcher--to mop up after these guys had crapped the bed. That must have frustrated the hitters--as Papi has implied. And they still are throwing those same guys out there (less Miller)--with the playoffs on the line! Sure, they had no control over Buchholz and Dice-K going down. But the management didn't replace them properly in the rotation. They overestimated their pitching depth.
  10. No. Henry cares. He cares about ticket sales. They are scared to death about anything that affects ticket sales. They equate the media to the fans. Wrong. But that's what they do. And right now, the local media is turning against the team, including the management. If they don't make the playoffs, they will have to make a manager change.
  11. The Globe sports editor said in a video tonite the Sox are 2-58 when they are losing after 7 innings. I'm not surprised. Every time I see a close game going into the later innings, the leadoff batter is not looking to get on base. They often are swinging at the first pitch. Where the hell is the manager here? These guys should be sweating pitches to get on base. But you don't see that on this version of the Red Sox. Johnny Damon, where are you.
  12. Didn't Miami get to the finals? The Celtics put 3 stars together and won a championship. Both did pretty well. But the Celtics broke up their chemistry to save $$ --first letting Posey go in '08, and then trading Perkins in '10. The latter may have cost them a championship last year. The Yankees, by the way, are put together to win a championship every year. By far, the most expensive team in sports. When they don't, it is a disaster in NY--though the media doesn't depict it that way.
  13. I don't think Guillen would be acceptable to the Red Sox management. He is too volatile a guy. They value guys like Tito--good with the players and the media-- and does what he's told. What they need is a manager more oriented towards fundamentals and team play. More intense about winning. Sharper on game management and handling pitching. Plus all the other stuff Tito is good at. That's all.
  14. I think it's a fair assessment that the manager gets fired before the GM. They certainly never get fired the same year. Tito and Theo are both at fault, in my view. Theo made mistakes signing players. Tito made mistakes not running the team properly. The Red Sox are a passive, leaderless team. The team leader is Pedroia, and it's not even acknowledged.
  15. Who cares? The management cares. They are scared to death negative media will affect ticket sales. They equate the media to the fans--which isn't always the case.
  16. How about switching teams--TB and the Red Sox? Including the managements? And then halving the ticket prices.
  17. Who's gonna can these guys? Theo's gatekeeper is Lucchino. Henry and Werner have probably never fired anybody in their lives. Oh yeah, Grady Little--after all the fan/media outrage. The one guy who could get it is Tito. The media's heating up right now, and if they don't make the playoffs, he'll be the scapegoat.
  18. yeah, and he never got his but on first at TB, either.
  19. Interesting comment by Martin. Could be he wanted to join them originally when they were "red-hot in the media" pre-season, but got rebuffed when they decided to go with Salty. That might explain his instant dislike of the Red Sox, which is not shared by other Yankee players who have fought a few wars with them.
  20. I agree with the some of the other posters about Crawford. He is a talented guy, and he can come back. He started slowly, and got dropped to 6th in the batting order. Tito's error is he never moved him higher when he got hot. he also never used Crawford's and Ellsbury's speed properly at the top of the order. Ellsbury has 35 SB--and has stopped stealing. Gardner passed him weeks ago. Crawford has 18 SBs. Imagine--a guy who steals 60 bases a year. Tito didn't adapt to the team he was given by the front office--and that's why he'll be fired--barring any turnaround by the team into the playoffs.
