  1. You know, I'm surprised that a guy with 80000 posts gets abusive with posters. Never get personal with anybody you don't know. That's the first rule of posting in chatgroups. Please honor me by putting me on your ignore list, thanks.
  2. I think the problem is sometimes you want to say something that isn't covered in a thread, so you try to fit it in with the thread you're looking at. There wasn't a thread on a new manager, for example, until yesterday. I know the answer is maybe to start your own thread, but sometimes you think what you have to say isn't major enough to warrant it.
  3. I still think Martinez has the advantage over the others, because turning Crawford around is a top priority next year. They also need a manager who will run, because this team is going to be loaded with base-stealers next year. Watching that WS game tonite, the Rangers had Andrus on 1B, a steal threat, which forced Pujols to hold him. The LHd batter Hamilton hit a grounder right through the spot Pujols normally plays. The steal threat caused the hit. Stolen bases, even the threat of them, have value, probably more than sabermetrics calculates.
  4. St Louis is a great baseball town. Great fans. You hate to see either team lose in these series.
  5. WARs for Salty vs CC last year: offense Salty 1.3, Crawford 1.2; defense Salty -.6, Crawford -.3 It's close. There is a Wakefield factor in Salty's low DWAR. Crawford's WARs last year, by the way, in TB were offense 5.3, defense .5 Crawford slipped defensively as well this year. Looks like a head problem.
  6. The Cards pulled it out last night, but you still have to applaud Ryan--win or lose. He's probably exec of the year. The Cards are a gritty team, and you want LaRussa in your dugout for these type of games. This is a great World Series--both teams should win.
  7. Francona is out there--in case Cherington runs out of names. Seriously, I'm reading no way Maddon is leaving Tampa Bay, but Dave Martinez is another story. These are the two main guys who can fix CC. Tampa's a nice place to live, so that has to be an attraction for Maddon to stay. Plus they have a good farm system. Maddon plays a modified version of moneyball. Guys like him and LaRussa are known to bunt to move runners into scoring position in crucial situations. LaRussa was talking about that this morning. I agree.
  8. I guess you just write 'em, not read 'em. That explains it.
  9. another big hit by Freese. Cards have turned the momentum.
  10. ?? How the hell do I know what he's thinking? You got the wrong guy, dude.
  11. If I knew the answer, I wouldn't have asked the question.
  12. somebody get Berkman a Budweiser.
  13. it would depend on what the FO signaled for him to do.
  14. Berkman is a clutch player
  15. I'd rather pitch to Pujols than Berkman right now.
  16. Would Tito have bunted here?
  17. LaRussa bunting. Anti-Beanball.
  18. well, that didn't last long.
  19. Freese just became a star.
  20. hope nolan ryan wins it. has done a helluva job in texas.
  21. call that a semi-intentional walk to berkman.
  22. berkman up. this guy can hit.
  23. You beat jung by a minute. Ted was the first manager of the new Washington Senators franchise in 1969, and led them to a winning record, winning MOY. Imagine, winning MOY his first year managing I was actually at the first game of the season at Fenway that Ted managed with Washington. The Senators won that game; Frank Howard hit a HR. Williams got a huge welcome from the fans. After a couple of years, Short bought the team and moved it to Texas and renamed it the Texas Rangers. The story is Ted didn't like Texas and left after a year. Got most of this stuff reading Moneyball.
  24. It's all come together for the Rangers. Theo's love affair for Adgon corrupted his senses. Washington, by the way, was an asst coach in Oakland under Billy Bean. He knows all about Beanball. Anybody know who the first manager of the Texas Rangers franchise was? (hint: he once played LF for the Red Sox).
  25. Except for Berkman, the Cardinals seem to be flailing away at bad pitches. Pitchers appreciate a little help. Ogando walks a couple of guys in the 6th to load the bases. Jay comes up and swings at the first pitch to make the 3rd out. I get the impression the Rangers are the best team in baseball. But it ain't over yet.
