Where did I say it was his hip that bothered him? You're putting words in my mouth. I said he jumped up and winced, and that no one knows what's going on with his hip. If Hinske is more for the outfield, then he isn't an offensive or defensive upgrade. Melky and Gardner are both similar hitters/better fielders.
