  1. I tend to selectively keep an eye on teems where former Sox are now playing. Examples would be K.C. with Coco Crisp and Toronto with Kevin Millar. Other than that, I used to follow the Twins in the late '60s because they were in the hunt with the Sox in '67. Later, I followed the Orioles in the early '70s because they were so dominant and I became friendly with several of their pitchers from hanging out in the bleachers at Fenway. I have admired the Rays for about 6 or 7 years because they have had so much young talent and the games with the Sox have usually been entertaining.
  2. Thanks for the edification.
  3. As I recall, the Sox lost that series. The Mets did not "beat" the Sox. The Mets are second fiddle in New York. As such, they can be considered an opponent of the Yankees. As a New York team, they are subject to the scorn and wrath of Boston fans. They are big market and compete with the Sox for talent. Despite this, they are usually laughable. Against my better judgment, I sometimes root for their success as it flies in the face of the Yankee's efforts.
  4. You guys know way more about this stuff than I do. Can someone explain why Mauer won't be attainable? Are the Twins in position to pay him big bucks-long term? Will the Yankees have the need and willingness to outbid the Sox? How much is he worth and how much do you believe the Sox will be willing to spend? I'd appreciate input because I have sort have been counting on Mauer being here since last season. Thanks.
  5. One has to assume that the Sox coaching staff has reviewed (and continues to) tape of Papi at the plate with him. Any and all deficiencies in has swing are being addressed under this assumption. It is an on-going process. I believe that they must know what they are doing. The erosion of his production could be from loss of visual acuity, loss of reflexes, poor judgment, continued bad habits, or injury (the wrist?). I don't buy into the idea that Ortiz has experienced an "inevitable decline" in hitting ability as many have observed. I have no idea what his problem is, but his presence in the line-up indicates that the Sox are convinced that the problem will soon be in the past. They know more than we do (I hope!). Here's hoping that he gets it together soon. There is no quick fix.
  6. Welcome.
  7. This game is a double whammy. The Sox are getting clobbered, and I have to listen to the wit of Stockboy and McCarver. Well, at least Papi didn't K in the 6th.
  8. Nice grab by Kapler.
  9. Dick Stockton should just shut-up. McCarver is a boob, too. And Rosenthal should be bitch slapped.
  10. I think I'm alone now. I was trying to figure out how to start a game thread when this thread appeared.
  11. No game thread today?
  12. Oh. Looks good, as long as he doesn't have to run too hard.
  13. Good point. He has some things to work out. 4 run lead seems like a good time to do it. He didn't have to throw too many pitches, as it turned out.
  14. "I'd rather have a solo johnson"-Eck.
  15. Yes it was. It would be nice to be able to count on him to do this much and more for the rest of the season. We'll see.
  16. True. He is interesting. He does give a different perspective. I'm just used to Remy.
  17. What did he mean. A homer is a Johnson?
