  1. Especially at night. The contrast is really amazing.
  2. Good evening Talksox! Pasta Mojo. I have a good feeling about this game. Let's go Sox!
  3. I'm rooting for Duke. But it would be cool to see Butler take it all.
  4. Wonderful post. To bad it does not address the fundamental flaw in UZR. Which I stated above.
  5.:lol: For the edification of Talksox members, most don't know how to speak English. Although, English is the most common second language among most urban Russians within the last twenty years. German is second. My ex-wife was conversant in six languages. Russian, English, Ukrainian, Spanish, Italian, and Hungarian. Oh, and bye the way, French was the spoken language in Russia until 1921. I hope this information helps you get big tips driving your cab in Brooklyn. Good luck. Poshel nowheh. (Sorry, no Cyrillic keyboard here).
  6. The Sox don't seem to have a problem eating salaries. Rich boy owners have a different perspective from Talksox members. If either or both of Lowell, Beltre's salaries, need to be eaten, so be it. If Theo has a hard-on for any player, they can make it happen.
  7. As my Russian ex-wife would say "I can't to wait".
  8. One of the strongest dynamics of Talksox is the Sox vs. Yankees banter. A good part of the discussion here is Sox against the Yankees. As such, not much is discussed concerning the other quality teams in the AL. And certainly we don't make much mention of Tampa Bay. I think The Rays are serious contenders in the AL East. It's entirely possible that one of our favorite teams will miss out on the play-offs if The Rays play well. For that matter, what about Chicago, Minnesota, LAA, Texas, and Seattle? We're two days away from opening day. What do you see happening? Will there be a real challenge from The Rays? Maybe someone else?
  9. Maybe I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but what do you mean? How are the two subjects so attached?
  10. Can't we all just watch the games? Sorry Rodney.
  11. I didn't ask this question to start s***. I was looking for some input from someone who I figured had seen both players many times. I've seen Pedroia hundreds of times. I've seen Cano maybe thirty times. I asked Jacko to asses both players. I figured he could add his $.02 worth using his observations and any stats. And by the way, while I'm becoming more comfortable with UZR, I still believe it is a flawed metric. Those that are big proponents of UZR believe that it takes the subjectivity out of defensive assessment. However, the mode of acquisition of data used to yield UZR is very subjective. There in lies (sp) the hole is UZR. Several people are watching the play and makeing notes. Where is the actual physical data gathered and how was it gathered? In my opinion, unless the field is fitted with lasers and detectors, most UZR data is just a bunch of subjective numbers. Jump all over me if you want to. Spend 20+ years in a laboratory or in a scientific/technical discipline and maybe you'll understand my view. I'd still love to hear what ORS would have to say on the matter. Why? He has a degree in an engineering discipline and is really into baseball.
  12. Hey Dr. , I have a question for you. I noticed that several people chose Cano over Pedroia on the better "line-up" thread. I was wondering if you would give me an honest assessment of the two? I like Pedroia. And not because he's on the Sox. Who do you think is the better 2nd baseman?
  13. So the discussion should be about batting order and the resulting production. I did not see a "line-up" on this thread that accurately enumerates the actual sequence that either team uses. As well, other posters have made reference to pitchers and defense. I guess I'm not on an island here. I live in a major league market where "Line-ups" are discussed for 3 of the 4 big league teams on a daily basis. Without fail, discussion always includes assessment of both defense and offense. And it always has. "It's that simple".
  14. Taking lessons in backpedaling, are you? Here is what wiki says: A starting lineup in sports is an official list of the set of players who will actively participate in the event when the game begins.[1] The players in the starting lineup are commonly referred to as starters, whereas the others are substitutes or bench players. The starters are commonly the best players on the team at their respective positions. Consequently, there is often a bit of prestige that is associated with being a starter. In both baseball and basketball, it is common for players' positions to be denoted by a number as well as by a name. In that instance, the associated number is used as well. If a common abbreviation is known, the abbreviation is listed after the associated number.
  15. I guess that open to interpretation. I don't see a line-up as a batting order only. Certainly the media in Boston does not. And again, the OP did not specify "who do you think has the best offensive line-up". Feel free to make a big deal out of nothing.
  16. The OP never made any mention of this thread being only about offensive production.
