  1. I agree. But we both have seen lousy ball being played by this team before. WE keep watching despite it! I hold no hope that the Sox will secure a playoff birth or even return to playing .500 ball this year. I just want to see how the young players develop and I want to see how this team is set up to play and hopefully compete to win games next year. The Sox are such a mess that I probably will not be shocked by anything that happens on the field or off the field this year. I just want to see my team TRY to play well and to win more than they have been winning so far. Is that to much to hope for?????
  2. Might as well try some Spudboy mojo as almost everything else seems to have failed!! Ruby De La Rosa 2-2, 2.51. VS. Chris Sale 8-1, 2.16. Let's hope good Ruby shows up and that the Sox can put a major hurting on Sale early. The Sox season may be toast but that does not mean that some good baseball can not be played. GO SOX!
  3. Maybe Drew gets released. Who knows? I think that he will eventually start hitting again. He is a professional MLB hitter and a very good glove. I believe that there is a market for that still.
  4. Yup. But most people here are satisfied that he contributed to last years amazing success. I'm more of a "what have you done for me lately" kind of guy. When Victorino is healthy he is so fun to watch with his speed and occasional pop. I think this season is lost for Victorino and that he is not likely to be a major contributor for the remainder of his contract.
  5. What? Where did you get that idea? What is wrong with Napoli?
  6. Red Sox Report Peavy trade to Cards could happen soon July, 8, 2014 Jul 8 3:50 PM ET By ESPNBoston.com 44 6 Comments12 Email Print ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, following up on a report that the St. Louis Cardinals are interested in Red Sox right-hander Jake Peavy and sent a scout to Boston to watch his start on Sunday, reported that a source told him a deal could be made "quick." That leaves open speculation that the Red Sox would like to strike a deal before game time Wednesday, when they would like to activate right-hander Rubby De La Rosa for a start again against the White Sox. That would preclude Boston from having to make another roster move to create space for De La Rosa. Could it happen that quickly? The Cardinals need rotation help, and they were very close to trading for Peavy at last year's deadline -- so close, that Peavy thought he was going to the Cardinals.
  7. I think that you will have your desire for having X back in the hole realized when Drew is traded at about the deadline. But maybe not?
  8. All is good with the game thread. One thing though. Usually, VA posts the lineups. Recently, sourcing the lineups has become a little difficult.
  9. I am thinking the same thing. I see no reason to sit Betts. If for whatever reason there is no way that he can be starting in MLB then send him back down to Pawtucket so he can stay sharp at the plate and continue his development. I don't know what the Sox are waiting for. The longer he sits, the more likely he will not perform well at the plate. Fred is pissed because he believes that the Sox have messed with X's head with the move from SS to 3rd. I believe that sitting on the bench is worse by far. The kid needs to play somewhere now.
  10. There is plenty to talk about even if the Sox season is a disaster. Most of it centers on speculation of what will be done by the Sox brass going forward.
  11. Peavey has looked decent for the past two starts. Today he did his job again but did not receive any run support. Maybe this is good in a way. It may make it easier to move him if he's looking like he is pitching well enough to win. The Sox bought him last year. Somebody should want him this year too. There aren't too many positives to talk about after this loss. However, Bradley made two more great - spectacular throws to the plate in this game. One hop ropes to the plate and dead-on accurate. He made a throw like this sometime within the last week too. Say what you want about him being worthless offensively, he is a lot of fun to watch in center field.
  12. I am not happy Peavey is starting again but who cares what I think? GO SOX!
  13. What a strange game. Pedroia with a costly error. Drew with a dinger. Bradley with a double.
  14. Lester deserves better than this. He should have a 2-0 lead.
  15. Who would you prefer if Ortiz is not available?
  16. Poopie has this game off. He had a scheduled two days off to attend his Daughter's graduation.

  18. GO SOX!!! Nice start so far for Lester.
  19. I read that he had been suspended. There was no mention of what specific drug or substance he was using. I wonder if pot will be taken off the banned list at some point. I have no problem with athletes sparking up as long as it does not interfere with play on the field. Aceves is some kind of whack job. Ironically, pot would mellow the guy out. He has talent but is unreliable because of his demeanor. At least he is a Yankee problem, not a Sox problem anymore.
  20. Again, you are absolutely right. I agree.

Winning ( in most cases ) takes money. The Sox know this.
  22. I fully agree Ted. Like yourself, I have been following the Sox since 1966 / 1967. I do not see myself as entitled. I see myself as a fan that has come to expect that the Sox front office will field a competitive team every year because with few exceptions this is what I have witnessed. I have said this before on this board. This market will not tolerate a losing team for long. Because the Sox are one of the "haves" in MLB fans should and do expect a winning product every year. The Sox don't have to win the division, the Pennant, or the World Series every year. They have to appear as though they are trying to do so. This year this team has not done this.
