  1. I hate to side with the devils on this one, but Jacko and Divinity are right. Around where I am, at least 80% of the baseball merchandise you will see if of the Yankees. Granted, I am the majority of the Red Sox fanbase over here, and I've gotten a few friends to support the Red Sox, but the only team people tend to talk about over here is the Yankees. Granted, they don't know that much about them, they just buy into the NY market. And I've talked with friends in Japan, Australia, Brazil, Pakistan etc, and most of them have only heard of one MLB team, and that's the Yankees. The Yankees are the most popular team worldwide as people don't even know that other MLB teams exist. Not to mention that popular American icons have made the NY logo fashionable so that people sport the gear without having anything to do with the team.
  2. Is age a factor? In other words, are we looking to build a longterm team or a one season team?
  3. Put me down for Chase "World F****** Champions" Utley Also, Divinity, I was going to take A-rod, but I knew you were a Yankee fan and even though I could have skipped your turn, I needed an excuse not to take A-rod.
  4. Divinity, it's your pick in the draft.
  5. Joey Votto as well, even though I don't care about the NL.
  6. I think we should have the clock be 12 hours, just because some people (ie myself) sleep for more than 8 hours. It may also account for jobs, time zone differences etc. I also have a feeling that we're going to be skipping a lot of draft picks, considering how long it took to get 10 people to do this thing.
  7. It says 8 hours now, I thought it originally said 12, no worries. Anyway, what happens for the skipped pick? Can the guy place his pick at any time while others do their picks in the middle, or does his pick just disappear?
  8. I don't think they were booing, I think they were just yelling "Drewwwwwww" j/k Besides, I think we should be cheering that he didn't get injured.
  9. I don't know, I swear the ball touched his glove. I'll need to see the replay again, but I was positive that it hit his glove. In any event, it should have been an error. I'd be incredibly pissed off if I was charged earned runs because of that garbage.
  10. I can't believe that in the same week, 2 of my star fantasy players get thumb injuries and are out for about 8 weeks. M*****f*****.
  11. He's on the DL with a thumb injury. Believe me, I'm just as pissed as you are.
  12. Let's keep this injury = win mojo going. Also, jbay44, it's your pick in the baseball draft.
  13. Can we trade draft picks?
  14. I don't understand why that's a 3 RBI double for A-rod instead of a 3 run error. I mean that's a huge pet peeve of mine in baseball scoring, but even then, the OF touched the ball. Even then, I think there should be errors charged even if the players don't touch the ball, but that's irrelevant because the ball went off of the LF's glove.
  15. I can use a good 2B. I'm putting my SP on the block, and relievers if the deal is right.
  16. Yeah, I forgot to add the extra *. My bad.
  17. That's a bit different, because we couldn't offer him arbitration and as such, we didn't get any draft picks for Saito. Plus, Saito was more content with being a setup man.
  18. God damn it Jimenez, stop giving up runs. Jesus f***** Christ.
  19. And, going a step further, Wagner is/was 38, so for the long term, the 2 draft picks is much more lucrative, especially considering the Red Sox draft history. I'd rather have Vitek and Ranaudo (assuming we sign him) over a pissed off setup guy who'd probably retire at the end of the year.
  20. I'm almost regretting dropping JD Drizzle from one of my fantasy teams.
  21. I saw the same thing, I think it was a Sports Science bit on ESPN. Basically, they calculated how much time it takes for the average penalty shot to reach the goal, and how quickly the brain can process the information and how quickly the brain can sent the signals to the right muscles to move and block the shot, and they deduced that it was physically impossible to block a penalty shot by waiting until you can see where it's going. (Assuming it's struck in one of the corners) That said, the goalies must cheat a bit and guess where the striker is going to place the ball. They said that the MLB average was .258, while the % of saved penalty kicks is around 22%, meaning that blocking a penalty shot is more difficult than getting a hit in baseball.
  22. And David Villa does it again for Spain. Seriously, the defense should put a bell on this guy or something.
  23. This game is f***** nuts.
