  1. His ERA at Fenway (5.75) notwithstanding, I think Lackey would be a tremendous signing. He consistently pitches well in big games, grinds through lineups and minimizes damage in innings where he should get hammered. If the deal is around Burnett's, I'll take it. Any higher would be overspending I think. On his Fenway struggles... I think a lot of that has to do with a lack of offense by the Halos prior to last year's playoff run. In general, he's pitched extraordinarily well against us giving up a run or two here and there but never allowing the Sox to blow him out of the park. If he would have received some run support in those games, I think his record tells a different story. All in all... a good sign if it comes to pass.
  2. I like the deal. Scutaro isn't going to mash the ball anytime soon, but he does get on base and can leadoff games consistently if Jacoby slumps like he has before. Getting the Braves 1st pick was big for this deal to go through. There's no way Theo signs Scutaro if he didn't have that pick in his back pocket. That said, I doubt he's done yet and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox sign a higher rated Type A player (Holliday please!) to keep Toronto from getting their pick.
  3. I dunno... they thought about it at the deadline, and if they decide they can't sign him long term they may want to move him That said, the price we'd have to pay would be astounding. Not sure if I'd go that route just yet.
  4. I'd gladly sign Harden but Bedard has been a train wreck since he left Fenway South. Thanks but no thanks. When he's healthy, Harden has excellent stuff and has the ability to be the true #3-4 starter we've been missing. Behind Josh and Les we've got Buch (who's too inconsistent to count on) and that's about it... If we could somehow pull off a coup and snatch King Felix out of Seattle for Buch, Reddick, Bowden, + another piece and then sign Harden, we'd really be in business. Just think... Beckett, Lester, Hernandez, Harden, Wake/Dice... now that's a rotation
  5. I like the move for a couple of reasons. He's young, under control at a reasonable cost, and has tremendous upside. This is the classic buy-low move and the Sox should reap a solid reward if he can figure out how to hit to the opposite field. Also, Hunter Jones was garbage. Getting anything for him is a steal IMO
  6. The entire trading period was a stroke of genius on Theo's part IMO... We gained a plus bat in VMart, added defense and contract control with Kotchman, and still have all of our top arms in the organization. I was surprised to see us flip LaRoche like that, but I'll take Kotchman's age, cost, and contract everyday over watching LaRoche leave in November. Yes I liked Masterson... his attitude was awesome and he was a major help last fall. But to be honest, he was never going to be a frontline starter in Boston. Maybe a 4 or a 5, but those guys can be found elsewhere, whereas a productive bat like Martinez cannot.
  7. I'd like to see him make quicker work of things but I'll take the zero runs scored... time to tack on some more
  8. Lester can't seem to locate the cutter tonight... not good so far
  9. Let's go Lester... time to get back on track
  10. Not exactly... although I wasn't living here when he was in charge, so I can't really comment too much.
  11. I'm here... just watching the game on MLB.com right now.
  12. I can only hope he figures it out soon, because when he's on, our lineup will be devastating. For the time being, Tito has to drop him down just enough to take the pressure off and let him relax. Here's how the lineup should look when Youk gets back IMO... 1. Ellsbury - L 2. Pedroia - R 3. Drew - L 4. Youk - R 5. Bay - R 6. Ortiz - L 7. Lowell - R 8. Varitek - Switch 9. Lugo/Green - R
  13. He hit 97 on the gun, but Tito said that Anaheim's posted speeds are always lower than what they should be. I'd say he was throwing 98-99 for sure, especially on the Napoli AB where he struck him out.
  14. That's terrible... I like Teagarden but Masty has the ability to be a solid guy for us in a number of roles for a long time. Players like that don't grow on trees.
  15. My sentiments as well... I think Lester will settle down as the season progresses and get back to the dominance we saw last year. He's throwing plenty of strikes, but good hitters like Longoria find ways around that. Got to be patient... As for Beckett, I don't really know what to think right now. Just when I feel like he's got it figured out and he's going to mow people down like 2007, he gets hammered and I go back to square one. He's missing that killer pitch to finish off ABs right now... if he finds it, he'll be the old Beck we love, but if not, we may have to settle with him being average this year.
  16. There goes that inning...
  17. Damn... just when I thought the beatdown would ensue. Wake's knuckler isn't doing too much knuckling tonight. Doubt he lasts much longer than the 5th at this rate.
  18. That knee injury makes him look ancient at times...
  19. Got to love Green's adjustment in that at bat... fooled him once, but not again. Can someone explain why Lugo will be in the lineup at all when Petey gets back?
  20. Don't get me wrong... I'm as big of a V-Tek honk as you can get. I was happy we signed him in the off-season and I hope he plays well this year. But sooner or later we're going to have to address the position in a big way, and I don't see anyone capable of being an everyday contributor in our system right now. So what guys are out there that we can get that will actually solve the problem? Personally, I'd hope that the Twins somehow decide to not pay Joe Mauer and he hits the open market. Then I'd throw a ton of cash his way and enjoy the results. But I doubt that's ever going to happen, given the fan love for Mauer up here in Minnesota.
  21. Can't disagree with that at all... Doubled the value of the team, made Red Sox Nation a household name, brought home two titles, and came inches away from playing for two more... all in this decade. They've made mistakes, but who the hell hasn't? Nobody's perfect last I checked...
