Mr Ed is one of the most popular shows of all time! More influential and important than Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones or whatever. Aside from the finale of MASH, it's Mr Ed.

In terms of popularity: Baseball card boom of the wax pack era (late 80's - early 90's) > now > 60's It's just the truth. Just cause you're not into it, doesn't mean others aren't.

Actually, the best players of all time were from my childhood and when I collected cards 1983 - 1992. Players before or after that weren't s***. That's when players were the most popular and were kids really liked baseball!

You're wrong. Topps posted record sales in 2020 and 2021. Ebay sold $2B in cards in 2020.

He didn't lead all SS's, Bo Bichette did. Xander was also the only SS of the top 6 in hits who didn't get 20 HR's or 60 RBI's. His 21 GDIP were most in that group and second overall.

It's just weird to use differing periods when we were obviously comparing Xander and Story at the time Story was signed.

Houck needs a specific spot and for him to maximize his arsenal. Watching him now just feels like he's holding back.

Because the MLB does a s*** job of marketing its stars. I already said this. MLB spends too much time marketing "the game" as a "past time" or whatever. It's dumb. To bring in fans they need the superstars of today and tomorrow. There are HOFers playing right now that people are taking for granted.

Valid concerns. He's been horrible against fastballs the past two years. I think he was trying to cheat against the heat last season which got him to have bad numbers against sliders too.

Story also has a higher WOBA and Hard Hit %. Xander's a more patient hitter, but he's also more likely to watch a pitch go right down the middle of the plate. Meatball Swing % Xander 67.4 Story 77.9

The previous 3 WS were the lowest rated in history. This is just following the recent trend. People just don't care about MLB that much anymore. They like going to games here and there. Population has increased so there are more fans to buy more tickets so it looks like there is more fan interest, but it's just not really there except for casual fandom. Also, MLB has done such a s*** job of marketing players that people in other markets have no real clue who plays on other teams. Corbin Carroll, Zac Gallen, Corey Seager and Marcus Semien should be household names.

One thing that was mentioned on the most recent Sox Prospects podcast was that the Cubs farm system had the highest velo in MiLB and was #2 in the STUFF metric. For a system managed by Crag, it gives me a little hope that he can move on from the pitchability guys that we currently have (like Walter) who just flame out at the higher levels of the farm. -
We'll see if Crag has some ideas about how to handle Houck.

At least he wasn't given a horrible nickname for that play yet. He played a very solid RF for WOO and has a great arm. I think he's athletic enough to play RF at Fenway. Long term, it will probably be someone else.

Since his injury in 2021, Story's offensive value has tanked. Story: Career 107 wRC+, 114 prior to 2021 season Xander: Career 118 wRC+, 113 prior to 2021 season Before 2021, Story was a better hitter and a better defender. Story then got injured and Xander fixed his defensive issues. Sox chose poorly.
