Are we looking to replicate 2012's 69 win team or really turn it around? Simply "replacing" last year's stats is a no win proposition. Well, it'd be a 69 win proposition I guess.

I'd rather have Salty at 1b than Gomez. His CERA sucks. If he can improve his hitting by moving to 1b, he may be servicable somewhere. Long term, he's not an answer for the Sox, obviously.

Ross hits RHP better than LHP. Lavarnway needs to learn how to pitch MLB pitchinf. At this point, stashing him in AAA would be a waste.

I wouldn't give him more than 2/$32. Is that less than he'd get elsewhere? Yup, but that's my limit. $30M per year is ridiculous for him imo.

They signed Papi for PR first and foremost. I don't think it was entirely a baseball decision. This ownership group cares more about NESN ratings than the product on the field.

Nieves and Farrell pitched on the same team and are said to have a good relationship. I'm sure he had a big say in the hiring.

I'd rather him than any other Indian. Pitching Masterson at Yankee Stadium is just asking for a loss. I'm blah on Cabrera or Perez.

Because a spot to Haren takes away a spot for a young arm (like Webster's) to develop in the majors. If they're going to compete for real, they need a bonafide #1 SP, a #3, a set up guy or closer, a SS, a RF, a LF, a 1b and a C that knows how to call a game. Just too many holes to make any real push.

I'm not sure why people would be excited for a rotation of 4 reclamation projects (Lester, Buch, Lackey, Haren) and a miscellaneous 5th starter. I think people need to come to grips with the fact that the Sox won't be a WS contender in 2013 but that it's not the end of the world. The Sox need to build a young core in hopes of renewing a Sox dynasty in 2015. If it was 2003, the Sox should be trying to load up on anything and everything. However, right now they need to take a more patient approach.

From 10-12, his OPS is .260 higher at home. His right/left splits are even worse.

Clearly not a single team wanted Haren for what the Angels asked for aside from the Cubs. If people want to bag on Ben, might as well bag on EVERY GM in MLB too... To call it an epic fail and to get so upset over it seems silly to me. If the Sox were one piece away, it'd make sense. They aren't. I still think they need a youth movement and to aim for a WS in 2015. 85 wins in 13, 90 wins in 14, 95 and a title in 15. That's what I'd shoot for.

Like a bad back and diminished velocity? I like Haren, but getting him for only 1 year and giving up something in the process seems like a waste to me.

Need 2 SP's, at least 1 top tier RP, C, SS, RF, LF, 1b and a better bench to compete for a WS. Remember, this team has missed the playoffs for a few years now.

To compete in 2013, they need more than "a couple of moves." They only won 69 games last year...
