    "Should" honor the contract. Unfortunately, that's not how MLB works. Considering his divorce, I bet he wants one more payday. Unless Barnes/Owens/et al move up quickly, Lackey still has more leverage, especially if the Sox underperform this year.

    Dude, you got a little wOBA on your face. You may want to wash it off. How come everyone else's views are "simplistic?" If it's a statement you don't agree with, it doesn't make it simplistic. We all know how OPS is calculated. This isn't some holy grail of advanced analysis bestowed on us. You said batting average is nearly useless. While there are a ton of other advanced stats that are "better," it doesn't make batting average useless.

    The only problem with only looking at OBP is that a single is more valuable to moving runners than walks. I think you have to look at all statistics. Favoring one and ignoring others is just as silly as completely ignoring RsBI and BA. Saying a stat like BA is useless is pretty snobby imo, especially when that stat does have value.
