By hook or by crook, Boras tends to get his clients the money they wanted (present value calculation aside). Never doubt the master. We'll see what he does with Xander in a few years.

He was turrible in the OF. The biggest mistake this team made in recent memory was definitely letting Beltre go.

They didn't need a CF or 1b, but that was their biggest acquisition in the offseason. What they needed was a power bat in LF and a future solution at C.

Nah. Youk was more than serviceable at 1b. I don't think it was coincidence that his career tanked after moving off of 1b.

Maybe there was a little bit of Sox burnout as well? Idk. It's nearly impossible to maintain the fanbase fervor the way it was in the mid 00's.

I'm not blaming the fanbase. The FO reacted to the fanbase's apathy with flashy signings. That is only a short term fix. The 2010 team still had a core of Pedey, Youk, Ells, Ortiz and a decent pitching staff. It only needed minor improvements rather than the huge "upgrades" it added. However, when you are putting down the product in ST, it really piled onto the fanbase. People stopped caring. The FO went overboard in 2011 and shot themselves in the foot. That 2010 team didn't need to be blownup the way it was.

If that were the case, it would be an even worse infraction. The casual fan makes up the vast majority of ticket sales and viewing audience for NESN. Towards the end of 2010, so many casual fans stopped caring that it basically forced ownership to sign the horrible Crawford deal. Sure, I liked watching Kalish play, but I was clearly in the minority. They're a business that has to balance PR and winning. Theo's 2010 dropped the ball on both accounts.

At the end of the day, the Sox are a product to be sold. Theo was doing a poor job of that at the time.

If they really want to build a team that can win year in and year out as they say, they need to keep the Rizzos of the world. I'm just not always sure there is one overarching plan the FO has. Some years they spend, some years they just roll the dice. They move on from some prospects without much of a fight, then sit on other prospects so long that they lose all value. Imo, there are too many people in the front office all pulling for their own agenda. Werner wants the big names. Ben wants the farm system. Pruneface just wants to know what day it is. Darth Lord Larry just wants to see his name in the papers.

It was bumped to limit the "you don't know what you're talking about" nonsense that goes on here. We dumped on the Sox that offseason and they end up winning the WS. We all know nothing. We are all s***** prognosticators that get paid to do non-baseball things in our regular lives. -

And Fred, with all the stuff you've written on every messageboard from here to the Acadia Water Polo team, I wouldn't get into a war of words with UN. It's not going to be enjoyable and you'll only get your blood pressure up. If you have someone on ignore, just ignore them. Tell your friend to not forward UN's posts if they upset you. Isn't that the reason you have him on ignore in the first place? (If that was me, I'd be more upset with my friend for riling me up than with soneone I'm ignoring. Whatever.) Look, I've got nothing personal against you Fred. Just trying to help not turn this place into a shitstorm.
