  1. I think we're kinda in the sane boat here. They just had to give him a shot in 2013. They let him ride for a long time in 2014, but it didn't work out. I'm holding out hope for him this year, but he needs to prove himself in AAA first.
  2. I'm just frustrated with all of these vampires running around here. It's like shoo shoo get outta here!
  3. Then they lose Fister and Zimmerman at the end of the year for nothing.
  4. http://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/16254-Why-not-keep-Ellsbury-and-Bradley-together-for-years-to-come/page6 Fred calls JBJ the real deal here. I'll give him credit that he thought a JBJ/Ells/Vic outfield would be great defensively and for wanting Gomes to get at bats.
  5. That was the height of Fred's anti-Victorino madness. I'm willing to bet his house that he wanted JBJ around.
  6. Sox signed Quintin Berry.
  7. And at the end of 2011, there were even more people on here enamored with Lavarnway. Sometimes you have to let things play out before you come to sweeping conclusions.
  8. By hook or by crook, Boras tends to get his clients the money they wanted (present value calculation aside). Never doubt the master. We'll see what he does with Xander in a few years.
  9. Yup, there are already enough pricks born in the States everyday.
  10. I'll be shocked if Max signs for less than 175M.
  11. He was turrible in the OF. The biggest mistake this team made in recent memory was definitely letting Beltre go.
  12. They didn't need a CF or 1b, but that was their biggest acquisition in the offseason. What they needed was a power bat in LF and a future solution at C.
  13. Nah. Youk was more than serviceable at 1b. I don't think it was coincidence that his career tanked after moving off of 1b.
  14. Maybe there was a little bit of Sox burnout as well? Idk. It's nearly impossible to maintain the fanbase fervor the way it was in the mid 00's.
  15. I'm not blaming the fanbase. The FO reacted to the fanbase's apathy with flashy signings. That is only a short term fix. The 2010 team still had a core of Pedey, Youk, Ells, Ortiz and a decent pitching staff. It only needed minor improvements rather than the huge "upgrades" it added. However, when you are putting down the product in ST, it really piled onto the fanbase. People stopped caring. The FO went overboard in 2011 and shot themselves in the foot. That 2010 team didn't need to be blownup the way it was.
  16. If that were the case, it would be an even worse infraction. The casual fan makes up the vast majority of ticket sales and viewing audience for NESN. Towards the end of 2010, so many casual fans stopped caring that it basically forced ownership to sign the horrible Crawford deal. Sure, I liked watching Kalish play, but I was clearly in the minority. They're a business that has to balance PR and winning. Theo's 2010 dropped the ball on both accounts.
  17. At the end of the day, the Sox are a product to be sold. Theo was doing a poor job of that at the time.
  18. Ok. I'll let him know. P.S. Now that there is a new female poster on this board, do try to be nicer to her than you were to VA or Emmz. Thx.
  19. Fyi Fred.
  20. If they really want to build a team that can win year in and year out as they say, they need to keep the Rizzos of the world. I'm just not always sure there is one overarching plan the FO has. Some years they spend, some years they just roll the dice. They move on from some prospects without much of a fight, then sit on other prospects so long that they lose all value. Imo, there are too many people in the front office all pulling for their own agenda. Werner wants the big names. Ben wants the farm system. Pruneface just wants to know what day it is. Darth Lord Larry just wants to see his name in the papers.
  21. Nope. Lucchino even refuted the idea of ever wanting a bridge year: “That’s not been the way we’ve operated,” Lucchino said. “We believe with the kind of market we have, the passion and intensity of our fanbase, and the financial wherewithal that that passion turns into, that we should be able to compete year after year. "
  22. If da FO was as good as you jocksniffers say, they woulda used a bridge year in order to get a high draft pick to take Trout.
  23. Yes, the crowd at Fenway is a lot different than 15 years ago, a much more white collar elitist vibe, just happy to be there.
  24. It was bumped to limit the "you don't know what you're talking about" nonsense that goes on here. We dumped on the Sox that offseason and they end up winning the WS. We all know nothing. We are all s***** prognosticators that get paid to do non-baseball things in our regular lives.
  25. Anthony Rizzo looks good these days.
