  1. And if the sox re-sign JBJ and add Brantley and Stroman, does that fix the issue of race? Of course not.
  2. My position is that my position makes more sense than you saying "the Orioles spend over 75M on non player salary operating expenses in 2020."
  3. Except that an ACTUAL DIRECT QUOTE isn't used by Speier. In fact, I couldn't find anything that was directly from Kennedy, just Speier's summation in his tweet. No other source has the full quote.
  4. They don't have 75M in Operating Expenses excluding player salaries. No f***ing way.
  5. There were 80 African American players on the opening day rosters. Of those 80, 10 were on the Mariners. That leaves about 2-3 per team for the rest of the league. 14 teams had 2 or fewer players. 3 teams had none. The amount of African American players on the current Red Sox team is not an issue. They had at least 3 on last year's opening day roster. Was that enough then? Yes, Boston does have its share of shitheads. The Sox have a bad history with race, but it seems like they've trended in the right direction since they changed the name of Yawkey Way.
  6. He'll be sitting out then.
  7. The Orioles payroll was less than $25M, there's no way they had 100M in operating losses. No way.
  8. And it was solely in relation to fans not being in the ballpark. It was the loss in revenue, not the operating losses.
  9. No. Betts was also the only African American on the Dodgers. The lack of African American players in the Red Sox system is a mere reflection on the overall state of the game and the problems in developing younger players in less affluent areas.
  10. There is no way a bottom of the order bat is getting 10M AAV.
  11. Yes. The arb system is a little flawed at the moment. This is why the SOX SHOULD HAVE NONTENDERED JBJ.
  12. Need to make room on the 40 for rule 5 guys like: Eduard Bazardo Kutter Crawford Chad De La Guerra Jay Groome Bryan Mata Hudson Potts Roniel Raudes Jeremy Rivera Jeisson Rosario Zach Schellinger Alex Scherff Connor Seabold Connor Wong Clearly, not all of these guys will put on the 40, but I bet the majority are.
  13. Aybar, Hall, Kickham, Leyer, Springs, Tapia, Walden. Out of those 13, I bet Weber has the best shot at sticking around. Plawecki is for sure staying.
  14. I'm sorry, I figured you were alive over the past month or so and knew what WAP was. Sorry that I'm so enlightened.
  15. He said they didn't average 100M in losses, just that they brought in 100M in less revenue. Contracts were prorated and teams still got tv money. That doesn't mean a whole bunch of teams LOST 100M this year.
  16. It'd be the perfect season for the Sox to employ Henry's checkbook to its fullest extent. Sign guys whose contracts would be below market in 22. Grab guys that teams are trying to part with. Could give this a 2013 Sox feel with short term contracts. SoxProspects podcast was saying that they wouldn't be surprised if Bloom nontendered 12 guys. The theory is that all of the AAAA relief arms that they have now are fungible enough to just dump and find slightly better options that will be nontendered elsewhere.
  17. I was surprised at his numbers when I looked at them. I just remember the 2016-2017 version of Brantley.
  18. You're the OG WAP man?
  19. Yeah, really hard to say what the market will bear. If the Sox are aggressive, maybe they can score some good contracts this offseason if other teams are worried about finances.
  20. Next year will be Brantley's 13th season in the bigs. Feels like 20th though.
  21. https://www.overthemonster.com/2020/10/1/21496710/boston-red-sox-offseason-free-agency-preview Forgot to add the link.
  22. OTM had a post today about how the most likely "high profile" FA signing would be Ozuna because he'd command a shorter contract at cheaper dollars. Overall, I think the Sox will simply attack the margins much harder than we like to dream about when thinking of free agent acquisitions — this is a slow build, after all, timed both to mesh with returning starting pitchers this season (Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodríguez) and younger players and minor leaguers/draft picks going forward (Tanner Houck, Bobby Dalbec, Tristan Casas, Jeter Downs, among others). My general rule of thumb in free agent watching is that if a player will define the Sox for five years or more, he’s probably the wrong guy. Bloom bought time with his thrifty 2020, and I expect him to use it.
  23. That game was pretty bonkers.
  24. And w/o Baylor's HR?
  25. Shmick Shmiller.
