  1. They've been lucky in 1 run games so far. It's just going to return to the mean.
  2. @IanCundall The Red Sox are one of the most active teams in acquiring talent out of Puerto Rico. The Elmer Rodriguez pick makes it 3 straight years & 8/9 that the Red Sox have drafted or signed an UDFA from PR. Last year, they signed two UDFA & in 2019 they selected SS Matthew Lugo in 2nd rd
  3. Some scouts are projecting Hickey to move off position a la Kyle Schwarber.
  4. @alexspeier Red Sox in the fifth round select their second University of Florida player of the day, catcher Nathan Hickey. The lefthanded hitter had a .317/.435/.522 line with nine homers and more walks (42) than strikeouts (40) this year.
  5. That's just depressing.
  6. @BaseballAmerica Red Sox draft pick Elmer Rodriguez is the first non-BA 500 prospect selected.
  7. @alexspeier In the fourth round, the Red Sox take 17-year-old pitcher Elmer Rodriguez out of Puerto Rico. At a Perfect Game event, he was up to 94 mph. His size (6-foot-4 but just 165 pounds) suggests projectable stuff as he adds size/strength.
  8. According to MLB, he's 6'3" and 160 lbs.
  9. Cruz is a 6'4" tall skinny Oregon commit. Can hit 94. Projectable frame. Already a 3 pitch pitcher (FB, CB, CHG).
  10. @MLBDraftTracker 4 (105): @RedSox select Leadership Christian Academy P Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz.
  11. @alexspeier Tyler McDonough is from the famous Moeller (Ohio) HS program - which produced Griffey and Larkin. He hit .339/.423/.631 with 15 homers and 37 XBH in 55 games this year for NC State.
  12. Fabian: "I have been dreaming of this day ever since I was a kid, and I could not be more excited to be drafted by the Boston Red Sox organization... I look forward to the next chapter and will push myself to develop both on and off the field." Saying the right things. Maybe not going to beat up the Sox over slot money?
  13. The safe picks rarely worked out for the Sox. I don't like that strategy at all.
  14. If they already reset, it seems weird to call this year a reset as well. Just say that they don't want to go over the luxury tax threshold.
  15. Dalbec is 26, not 23-24. There's not much more room for improvement IMO.
  16. Once the book got around on Dalbec, he struggled to adjust. The first few weeks of his career are the aberration. His OPS is not good enough for 1B.
  17. So bye to Cash and Boone then? It was a good run.
  18. As Sox fans, we are getting used to the swing and miss.
  19. So contract weren't suppressed last offseason?
  20. @MikeMonaco_ Jud Fabian to the Red Sox in the 2nd round. Big upside. Homered twice off Jack Leiter in a span of two ABs earlier this year.
  21. @MLBDraft With the 40th pick, the @RedSox select @GatorsBB outfielder Jud Fabian, No. 23 on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list.
  22. Casas hasn't hit a HR since May.
  23. Casas' OPS has fallen off recently. If Mayer shows up and has an OPS above 850 in Salem, that should jump him above Casas unless Casas starts to absolutely mash.
  24. Proximity is why Casas has the edge. Ceiling wise, Mayer is #1 for sure.
  25. Decent is more than $8M? I thought contracts were going to be suppressed due to COVID.
