  1. It made up for 2003 for sure. At least 1986 game me a story that my kids love to hear (my dad waking me up to tell me that the Sox are going to win the WS and then me witnessing the Gedman/Stanley mix up and disaster that followed).
  2. It was a question many of us asked this offseason. The OF plan on day 1 was not a good one.
  3. Hard to compare a guy who is still in their arbitration years.
  4. IDK. Ottavino scares the s*** out of me whenever he's on the mound.
  5. Don't speak that into existence.
  6. "Hey Pedro, I know you're one of the most competitive people in the world. Do you think you can get the next few guys out? Oh, good!"
  7. Richards has the second most saves for the Sox since August 1. 2 saves, 1 hold, 0 blown saves.
  8. He's the closer and makes the right amount of money for that position.
  9. I agree, but it's clear that a bigger part of postseason success is due to the starting rotation. If they go cheaper on DH and spend on the rotation, I think you have a better chance of getting to the playoffs. I think you still need some big bats, but it doesn't have to be the traditional DH only types. If payroll isn't a consideration (like in the early Ortiz years and early JD years) then you have the luxury to go nuts at DH. Seems like the purse strings are a little tighter now.
  10. Actually, you WERE wrong. The proof is in the pudding. At the end of the night you were crying in your beer and not dancing in the streets.
  11. Espinal went 1-2-3 in his first inning. Giving up a double to Nelson Cruz and a single to the raging hot Wander Franco isn't the end of the world. He probably deserves a longer look.
  12. Verdugo? A few. He's not very good either. Kiké rarely if ever. He's actually pretty good out there. And yes, Renfroe's range leaves something to be desired. He's got a cannon, but he's not very athletic in RF.
  13. Part time LF? He was better when he was younger (2015-2018). He's still only 28, but plays the field like he's closer to mid 30's.
  14. Why don dey call up dat Wu guy who just trew 5 no hit innings n Greenville? Um sure he could do da same ting here! That's what you sound like.
  15. Maybe in 2023. How would his 5.29 ERA in Greenville look against MLB hitting?
  16. I meant less about individual statistics, but more of "what were they doing that October." When the Sox have pitched well, they've gone to the playoffs. When the Sox have pitched poorly, they've been medicore to also rans(2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015). If it wasn't for the pitching, Ortiz and JD would have never made it to the WS with the Sox. 2004: Schilling addition 2007: Beckett, Paplebon, Lester rookie year 2013: renaissance for Lester/Buch/Lackey and Kojimania 2018: Sale/Price/Eovaldi/Kimbrell
  17. Plus: plate discipline, arm, speed Plus Plus: range and glove (highlight reel)
  18. Yorke's 1219 OPS in Greenville is just hilarious. OPS by month: May 483 June 953 July 966 August 1352 Sept 1196
  19. How did Ortiz and JD fare in years when the starting pitching didn't quite have it?
  20. Rosario had a 782 OPS in August. I think missing out on 2020 really hurt a lot of these guys. He's a career 700 OPS guys so it's not like he has a huge ceiling. Potts has taken a step backwards, but was injured at the start of the season and is still only 22. German has been taken out of the pen. His last two appearances have been in relief: 2 innings, 4k, 0h, 0bb, 0r. (SoxProspects had him projected as a middle reliever anyway.) Wallace had only played short season ball before this year and missed out last year. In August: 0.92 WHIP. He has 20 k's in his last 11 innings to only 4 bb's.
  21. Yes, because you'd take that 20M+ and put it towards pitching instead of using it all on a DH, which should be the easiest position to fill. I think going forward, the Sox should NOT go for any DH only guys in FA. Cora likes a versatile lineup and having a guy like JD or Ortiz kinda limits what you can do on a day to day basis.
  22. Uh, he had a 21.6 UZR/150 in 2007, -1 DRS. Those numbers are vastly better than Duran. Duran just isn't good out there. I'm not sure he even shows promise.
  23. Coco was very good through 2013. They should have kept Coco and never signed Crawford. CC 0.0 fWAR 2011, 130 games Coco 2.0 fWAR 2011, 136 games Coco had a 3.7 fWAR season in 2013
