  1. Bogey is so good you had to give him double the WAR!
  2. No, I'd rather him put the ball in play. There is a higher likelihood of success if the ball is put in play than if it just lands in the catcher's mitt. How many times did he put the ball in play and avoid a DP rather than just k?
  3. Signing a FA would cost a QO comp pick at most. Trading for Bogey would cost prospects plus the worry of Bogey leaving at year end. Better to go with the stability of the FA class IMO. It's the opt out that hurts Bogey's value the most.
  4. Why not keep Bogey AND sign a SS?
  5. That's 10-4 there.
  6. To me, Verdugo is on the bench vs LHP. JD would play LF, Kiké CF and Renfroe RF. Then you'd just go with the guy at 1b that would provide the best OPS vs LHP, right?
  7. OPS vs LHP 774 822 848 Which guy would you sit?
  8. Ronaldo Hernandez OPS by month: MAY 729 JUNE 543 JULY 982 AUG 948 SEP 954
  9. If a team wants a player like Bogey, why wouldn't they just sign one of the FA SS's?
  10. https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/story/2021-09-10/dodgers-pitcher-trevor-bauers-leave-extended-again You think Bauer will get released?
  11. I would assume that 2 out of Dalbec, Schwarber and JD would play every day.
  12. @PeteAbe A few #RedSox notes: * 19 of Dalbec's last 27 hits have been for extra bases. His OPS was .651 on July 30. It's .786 now. * Sox have allowed 18 unearned runs in the last 8 games. * Sox are 9-9 since their Covid outbreak. * Shaw has a .960OPS in 19 games with the Sox.
  13. My targets? I actually like Xander's defense more than most other posters.
  14. Doing something to improve defense means practice. We're talking about practice.
  15. Who said "replaced?" If Devers and Dalbec had worked harder on their defense last offseason and during this season, the team would be better off.
  16. Reminder: today's game starts at 4:10 EST.
  17. Ted: 156 WRC+, 1045 OPS, 131 Runs, 145 RBI, 185 Hits Dalbec: 115 WRC+, 817 OPS, 58 Runs, 72 RBI, 111 Hits, 3x lower bb rate and 5x higher k rate Having 1 extra HR while being 5 years older doesn't really get me that excited...
  18. I never said "replace these guys with defensive minded players," I just said if this defense was better they'd have more wins.
  19. So if Devers fixed his throwing issues, he'd start to eat s*** at the plate? That's a dumb argument.
  20. Not sure how stating an obvious fact of "if the Sox had better defense, they'd have more wins" becomes wrong? They'd have a few extra wins this month if the defense wasn't a joke.
  21. If we are weighing with scales, it's much closer to most contenders than "one 17 years ago."
  22. If the Sox had better defense, the team wouldn't be tied with NY and TOR, they'd be firmly in the pole position for the first WC spot at least.
  23. Disagree. Berry: https://cdn.fangraphs.com/players/quintin-berry/9414/game-log?position=OF&gds=&gde=&type=0&season=2013 Roberts: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=roberda07&t=b&year=2004 Both were used quite often as defensive replacements. Kotsay might actually be the least applicable since he mainly became a starter once he came to BOS.
  24. Supplementing the bench is pretty typical for contending teams. Some posters just like to gaslight though.
