  1. At least our #2 hitter isnt Semien.
  2. @SmittyOnMLB Red Sox lineup vs. Rangers on Friday: Hernández CF, Devers 3B, Martinez DH, Bogaerts SS, Verdugo LF, Story 2B, Cordero 1B, Vázquez C, Bradley RF, Pivetta P
  3. Manfred, killing baseball since 2002. Manfred negotiated MLB's first drug testing agreement with the Major League Baseball Players Association. That deserves one Rafael Palmeiro finger waggle.
  4. @SmittyOnMLB Tim Hyers calls Boston Red Sox hitting coach Pete Fatse ‘brother in this game,’ confidence in successor despite offensive struggles “Pete is really smart,” Hyers said. “He’s a great hitting coach. I have all the confidence in the world in Pete. He made me a better hitting coach being a partner with him and co-worker. He’s really, really good. I’m sure him being the head guy, there’s things he’s going to have to learn and things you don’t see until you walk in those shoes. Adjustments to make. To me, it’s brand new every year. You have to maneuver how you want to help each hitter and how you want to help this team. And what’s the makeup of your team? When they go through slumps, how do you help them? Is it push or back off? What do you do?” Hyers also added, “I had all the confidence in the world with Pete. They’re going to be in great hands. So if there was a time for me to walk away, it was the time.” Hyers said he’s sure the Red Sox have implemented some new systems and hitters are still adjusting. “But overall, hitting is down this year,” Hyers said. “There’s a few clubs tearing it up. But for the most part, there’s a lot of clubs that are trying to find their footing here early in the season. I think pitching has put it to us offensively. No excuses, but I do feel that kind of the late start, maybe some of the hitters didn’t get their footing, their timing like they are usually accustomed to. And that could play a part in it.”
  5. Most of the guys you mentioned weren't in their prime the way Betts was though.
  6. I think most every team could make a list like that though.
  7. What's the Beltran thing? Did he mean Beltre? Is he just making a list of all players who have ever left? Melancon has had 229 saves since leaving. Maybe mention him?
  8. Mueller and Lowe they didn't want to re-sign. I'm not sure they had any interest in re-signing Pedro either. When did Beltran play here? They traded Beckett and AGon.... I mean... what a crazy list...
  9. The name of his first born is already prominently tattooed on his arm.
  10. By "move him around" I don't necessarily mean move him to another team. Maybe you move him to 3b or OF or DH? Maybe you do eat part of his salary and deal him?
  11. And to think I thought they could stay competitive year and in year out due to the high cost of tickets and NESN!
  12. In SoFL, "no shoes, no service" has no meaning.
  13. Right now, he's young enough that you have to ask him to change positions. At some point, you'd be telling him to change positions.
  14. He got banned from a Yankees board.
  15. Last season, jacko declared that he had been right about every Red Sox season for 7 years (he hadn't) and that the Sox would be terrible again (they weren't), so we all just need to remember to ignore all of his prognostications. I don't mean to moon up this post, but it's an important reminder.
  16. How about this soon to be FA: 2022: 34.1 IP, 2.10 ERA, 2.57 FIP, 1.0 fWAR He'll only be 32.
  17. There's another guy with an arm that is young for age 33 as of next Opening Day: Allen Webster.
  18. I still don't agree with this theory.
  19. At least his contract isn't top of the market so that you can move him around if Mayer and Yorke force their way onto the roster in a few years.
  20. It's Friday, don't do this to me on a Friday.
  21. Red Sox executive Ben Crockett told Speier that the club believes Song has participated in “some level” of baseball activity during his aviation training.
  22. Red Sox pitching prospect Noah Song has completed his flight training and has applied for a waiver to resume his baseball career, according to Alex Speier of The Boston Globe. It’s unclear when Song might be able to return to the mound if his waiver is approved.
  23. None of his WAR came from D or running last season though. He had a negative dWAR and negative BsR due to the injury. His injury plagued season is what it will look like when he ages. With the offseason to rest, those numbers have ticked up a little this season.
  24. They should never have signed Story. It was the beginning of the end.
