A last DAMN place team that is .500 or above would get the biggest asterisk this side of a French comic book. They have been horrible against the AL East this year. What that tells me is that, they'll probably do better against TBR, TOR, BAL, NYY down the stretch.
Why? Crawford didn't have a high pitch count? When all was said and done, he only threw 91 pitches.
If Houck is the closer, why would you use him in the 7th inning? Didn't Schreiber end up taking the loss anyway?
Ignoring his first start jitters against BAL:
6 GS
3.71 ERA
5.2 IP/S
1.29 WHIP
The only bad start out of the 6 was against NYY. He's been fine for a guy still getting his feet wet.

Absolute cannon. Pirates fans don't have much else to enjoy this year aside from Chavis' long hair.
I agree. The need is to find a 1B that can hit and reasonably field the position through October. Maybe the need for relievers diminishes with Eovaldi, Sale, Hill and Wacha coming back. Keep Crawford and Winckowski up in some capacity. Whitlock is in the pen. Maybe Paxton can offer something at some point.
It's just going to be sad when the Mariner's have the playoffs within their grasp, but blow it over the course of a 10 game homestand at the end of the year.
And now for something completely different:
@PortlandSeaDogs
Jay Groome is on the move to join the @WooSox!
Groome was 3-4 with a 3.52 ERA with the Sea Dogs this season and struck out 81 hitters in 76.2 innings.
Yes, in the longer version that I listened to he went on to talk about how they were "raised in Boston" and know what it takes to play in Boston unlike other guys that come from outside of Boston. He wants both Bogey and Devers, but believes Devers is a generational talent.
“100 percent, when I see Devers, it’s like I never left (the game). … He looks invincible out there. … Devers might be one of the top-three pure hitters in the game right now. I hope the Red Sox make sense of the decision they need to make with him…We’ve got to keep him. He’s the face of the organization. I know what I’m going to get from those guys. They are the best players that can represent the Red Sox. We need to lock them in.”
