  1. @SoxProspects Niko Kavadas went 3-for-4 with a double (1) in last night's 7-1 Scottsdale Scorpions loss. The 23-year-old slugger is 4-for-9 with four walks in his first three Arizona Fall League games.
  2. I was just saying that Refsnyder was clearly NOT Cora's plan in Spring Training. That there was no plan aside from "I guess throw Arroyo out there." None of that would have fixed JBJ regardless and at no point did I claim that.
  3. Ward left most recent start early. However, this was due to "side discomfort" and had nothing to do with his arm. @ChrisHenrique Red Sox pitching prospect Thad Ward left the game with the trainer in his second start in the Arizona Fall League. He pitched three innings for the Scottsdale Scorpions. Ward surrendered four hits, gave up two runs both earned, walked five and struck out two.
  4. Had Cora even suggested Refsnyder as an option in Spring Training instead of Arroyo, maybe it's a nonissue.
  5. He is on the 40 man. If you are on the 40 man, you are under the terms of an MLB contract. He would have to be DFA'd and clear before any pending minor league free agency.
  6. They already knew that Duran couldn't hit lefties. They already knew Duran couldn't field the position. What were they waiting for? It made zero sense to try Arroyo out there. It makes sense to try Dalbec out there starting now, which gives him a full offseason to learn the position.
  7. Effross taken off ALDS. To get TJS.
  8. I think the issue was that you want a backup OFer on the bench for Verdugo and JBJ that hits RH. They didn't have one. You can't just have 3 OFers on your roster. Plus, JBJ went into the year with big question marks as he previously struggled with the Brewers. It wasn't a slam dunk that he'd have a hot streak to even out his typically cold streak.
  9. He signed 4/40, but after already being in the league for 4 years. At the time, that seemed like a pretty good deal. I don't remember if there were injury concerns prior to 2019.
  10. Just typical PR nonsense that means nothing and we can take nothing from it.
  11. The team had a chance to compete for a playoff run, but health had to break their way two years in a row and that was unlikely for an aging/injury prone pitching staff. The bullpen additions were less than lackluster. They were still trying to figure out who the RHB platoon would be at the end of Spring Training and were throwing Arroyo out there during batting practice to test it out. It didn't work and had poor results that first Tigers series. People wondered about a platoon bat for the hot/cold Dalbec and that never materialized either. The "supersub" Arroyo had a career high 87 games, even though there was ample playing time available due to Story/Devers injuries, and still only amassed 0.2 fWAR. The plan did feel incomplete.
  12. The Sox know these players and can project much better than we can. If they think Casas is a sure thing, I don't see the harm in offering him an extension, but they aren't typically done for 1b guys as it's a position that only the best of the best get paid a premium now. With pitchers, health can really derail a career. I think that's the biggest reason we haven't really seen those guys get early extensions.
  13. Dig up Professor Bartholomew's grave! We can resurrect him! We have the technology! https://hamhistorian.wordpress.com/2011/11/05/white-stockings-and-balloons-american-baseball-comes-to-melbourne-in-the-1880s/
  14. Yes, the Sox would have to re-sign Valdez as a MiLB FA and then not add him to the 40 man prior to the Rule 5 Draft and then he could be drafted.
  15. Cubs Payroll 19: 2nd highest 20: 6th 21: 10th 22: 15th Red Sox 19: 1 20: 3 21: 3 22: 6 Uh, it's not a comparable situation. If the Sox did what the Cubs did, heads would explode on here.
  16. Ronaldo Hernandez is probably protected as well as he earned a 4th option year and can stick in AAA all next year as the starting catcher.
  17. You have Kelly above German after touting German as a late inning arm all year?
  18. PAWSOX as a team were pretty speedy in the early 80's with over 140 SB's each year from 82-84.
  19. When Robles shows up for work it's as a AAAA guy.
  20. Sox aren't "paying" anything if you read the post above or look at Cots. There is just a difference between the Hosmer's luxury tax liability and his payroll liability.
  21. If a team is a million miles away from the luxury tax cap and are only actually paying him the veteran's minimum, why would they care about the luxury tax calculation? I'm sure there are a few teams that would take on Hosmer.
  22. Do we still retain the option for 2023?
  23. If they aren't picking up Kiermaier, he'd look in CF in BOS if they are going to move Kiké to SS.
  24. They project the Rays to have 42M in ARB payroll when they only had 51M in payroll in 2022. Wonder if they will end up nontendering/trading guys like Ji-Man Choi and Yarborough.
  25. Yaz 2 and Logan Webb have about the same service time, but Webb is projected to have a smaller arb figure. If they both went to FA today, Webb's contract would dwarf Yaz 2's.
