  1. As you said though, he's a SUSPECT!
  2. That's just sad. There rankings must be much better now.
  3. Wow, you don't have to call out Noah Song like that.
  4. Another interesting call for sure.
  5. I think it's a little different for a pitcher that hasn't pitched above rookie ball. Song was a guy that had mid-rotation potential. Now, he'll be lucky to stick in the pen. It's definitely changing his trajectory and not for the better. Normally, I don't buy into the "they ruined Cla Meredith" type stuff, but I do think this isn't the best scenario for him.
  6. Good. I hope being selected in the Rule 5 draft doesn't hinder his career.
  7. Also, having Rule 5 guys selected is a sign of having a strong system. If Bloom develops a strong farm, more Rule 5 guys will be taken over the next few years.
  8. Park was protected AFTER the Rule 5 draft deadline. I agree that Brasier and Ort better have good years since that is who Bloom kept. However, Bloom also kept German, DHern and Seabold who were also DFA'd. A case could have been made to have keep Ward through the Rule 5 draft instead of those three and work a trade if you don't see a fit for him at the very least.
  9. Ball wasn't a top 100 prospect, was he?
  10. Was he working with a pitching instructor that we don't know about?
  11. Ah, but have you heard about his age and talent?
  12. I know it must be hard taking L's first thing in the morning. Go have another cup of coffee though.
  13. The new team has to follow the same Rule 5 restrictions.
  14. How many guys have been successful jumping straight from rookie ball to MLB regardless of time off? The list isn't big. What does his pitching even look like? We don't even know how much he has been throwing or if he's been able to work with pitching instructors for the past few years. To just shrug that off is a little bit of a mistake. Noah Song had a lot of talent, but he is far from a sure bet that some people are making him out to be.
  15. Yes, but should we start a new thread?
  16. Just take the L, loser.
  17. No, but it implies that ESPN has the correct answer, which would be the 3+ bWAR. Your ruling is denied.
  18. If I'm ranking the likelihood of scenarios: 1. Song gets traded to a third division team that can carry him (PIT, WSH, etc.) 2. Song sticks on the Phillies but only sees mop up duty and it's not great 3. Song gets sent back to BOS 4. Song sticks on the Phillies and is successful
  19. Whitlock also had success at AA. Song hasn't even pitched in low A. Whitlock's rookie ball numbers were pretty good too (14.1 Innings, 22K, 0 BB), even better than Song's.
  20. Original poster said “no checking ESPN” which uses bWAR only.
  21. Because you want to field a competitive team with the best players possible.
  22. Either return him or trade him somewhere else.
  23. @MattGelb Last note on Noah Song for today: The Phillies have clarified to say Song was not discharged. He was transferred from active duty to selective reserves and is still serving while being permitted to play professional baseball. This was a call by the Navy. Song had requested a waiver over and over but it had not been approved. It was finally approved.
  24. @ChrisCotillo Tanner Houck tells MassLive that he had conversations with the Red Sox about a contract extension last year. The sides didn't get far, but he's keeping the door open for more talks in 2023. "If the opportunity on both sides is right, I’d be willing to."
  25. Phillies projected pen: Dominguez Alvarado Kimbrel Soto Bellatti Strahm Brogdon Nelson/Song If you are the Phillies, do you want the guy who put up 1 fWAR last year or Noah Song? Nelson: 96 MPH FB Slider Change (worst pitch) 88th percentile Hard Hit 85th xSLG 96th Barrel % He has options so you can just stash him if Song looks ugly. Not sure I'd expect Song to look that good this year though. If you're drafting him it's for 2024, 2025, 2026....
