  1. Funny, I don't see your mod tag, did I miss something?
  2. We don't need barry Bonds but Hanley's cooled off a bit after a fast start, it's not unfair to point that out. It's entirely possible that Hanley winds up on the bench by the deadline and Sam Travis is our starting firstie.
  3. Strek > swars, but there's a spectrum. Old Swars > Chris Pine Strek. TNG >>>>>>>>>>>>> prequels.
  4. this team is finding ways to lose. I'm speechless.
  5. I was meh about the signing. I didn't think we needed him and was worried about his downtrending OPS, but I didn't see this happening, not even close.
  6. When someone else in the rotation becomes a pleasant surprise I'll talk about them. I like to accentuate the positive, right now other than possibly Rick Porcello, Wright's the only positive in the rotation.
  7. Buchholz right now is in the 4 hole in the rotation, at least until Wright regresses. Price is ahead on faith that he's a good bet to pitch better than he has, Porcello and Wright on performance. Right now Wright is pitching like that solid #2, not sure he'll sustain that, but that's what he's doing at the moment, and the fact of the matter is we're still complaining about Buchholz because he's still not even pitching well enough to be the #4 starter. Thank God that Steve Wright has been as good as he has. because of that we can possibly put Buch on the hot seat a bit. Tell ya what though, if Buchholz can turn it on a bit, and Wright only regresses to the high 3's low 4's ERA guy I suspected he was before the season started (a respectable #3 in other words), we could actually have a heck of a rotation.
  8. clay Buchholz is rapidly becoming a luxury we can't afford. Price won't be this terrible forever, Porcello's coming around,Wright may regress but it looks like he should be solid even when he does, and we have some youngsters we can work in and out of the rotation until someone sticks, but I don't have any real faith in buchholz to turn a bad season around anymore. I've been done with this guy for years so this probably comes as no particular surprise. Unload him and use the rotation spot to work through our rookie depth. We can probably find someone on waivers who's a better bet to not suck if that fails. Get him out of boston.
  9. That was tenser than it ever needed to be.
  10. Very well done Mr. Hembree
  11. Steve Wright is doing his damnedest to get this team into the positive column. They need to start not wasting his starts, he's been the bright point so far.
  12. That was an acelike performance until we got to the 7th. He gave the team just as much as he possibly could. Respects to Steve Wright.
  13. I'll take that performance from Porcello anytime.
  14. Yep. 100% agree.
  15. There is no reason to fire John Farrell that wasn't true when pitchers and catchers reported. If they didn't fire him by then, they won't fire him before June. Count on it.
  16. Just to put Leon in perspective, Baseball-Reference last year gave him 0.7 dWAR (wins above replacement based on his defense) which is actually really really really good for the very limited playing time he got. Over a full season that might be as many as 2 to 2.5 defensive wins. Unfortunately it also gave him -0.8 oWAR, meaning his bat cost the team a tenth of a win more than his glove saved them. The glove is good, but the value of the glove is destroyed by pitcher-like offensive talents and results in a player that is at or marginally below replacement level.
  17. The problem with judging the defensive skills of third and fourth string catchers like Sandy Leon is that they're not usually up in the majors long enough to let small variations fade into perspective. A starting catcher or even a backup will have dozens of games played to smooth out statistical oddities, so one bad play or one bad game won't ruin their entire season. a guy like Leon makes one mistake and his numbers for an entire year look terrible. i think Leon has a great defensive toolset, but he'll never get enough reps in the big league to prove it because the bat is so bad and he's so much dead weight in a lineup that teams just don't want to put him out there when there's a game to be won.
  18. he's a pretty good defender, but his bat makes Kevin Cash look like Victor Martinez.
  19. The problem is even defense guys need to hit at least a little, enough to avoid doing damage to the offense at any rate. Leon doesn't. He's an acceptable backup, but the negative offensive value doestroys a lot of the good stuff he does with the glove.
  20. you know the weird thing with monotones is that they're easy to tune out.
