  1. you mean other than 04-09 when they won twice and challenged seriously several more times?
  2. You're not correct there. I don't remember the details, but I do remember that a serious effort was made, and that Ellsbury let it be known he was not interested in making a deal that would accomodate the Sox' budget in any way.
  3. And then next year they sign another generation of aging has-been PED abusers and proclaim the pinstripes to be in the ascendency again.
  4. Why should he take off the ring?
  5. you have to be glad of that, TBSB, otherwise you wouldn't have much to brag about
  6. damon and Ellsbury = could have stayed but left to go to NYY for more money = traitors who tarnished their reputation Boggs = guy the FO decided not to keep = left to NYY simply because they were the ones who were willing to make an offer = just FA doing FA things I actually feel similar about Rajah Clemens, and would say the same thing if Jon Lester somehow wound up on NYY. Our FO moved on from the guy, who turned out to have some life left in him. If a guy walks when we wanted him and would have compensated him appropriately (not a lowball offer like with Lester), that's one thing, but if we close the door in a guy's face, we have no more claim on him.
  7. It's a The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim reference. Easy to tell in this thread who plays video games and who doesn't It's a reference to an apparent epidemic of arrow-related knee injuries in Skryim that seems to explain why there are very few adventurers left, but a lot of guards. it's one of those lines that COMES. UP. ALL. THE. TIME... in the game, so it's kind of iconic,.
  8. How many of these stats actually enhance our understanding of the game and how many of them pelt us with mostly meaningless trivia?
  9. Well despite the fact that E-Rod used to be an adventurer like you, we need him, and we need to figure out how to get buchholz out of his way somehow. I'm sure DD can come up with something.
  10. Did to me. I got what dewey was saying. A combination of "paralysis by analysis" and "let him who is without sin cast the first stone." I don't really care about Vazquez offensively unless he dips below the Mendoza line. Right now he's replacement level on offense and providing good value defensively, that's exactly what we expected him to do.
  11. Could be A-Rod, could be Johnny Peralta.
  12. not really. The interesting thing here is that Wright is ranked like a low level ace (24th best pitcher means that he's better than at least a few teams' #1 starter) and Porcello was ranked like a high level #2. That's not a bad combination, if we can keep Price going as the weather heats up.
  13. 108 ERA+ in 2007. He wasn't fantastic, but he pitched alright,
  14. Concussions are bad news and it can be really really hard to tell whether someone has actually recovered. I do not want Holt out there while suffering with literal brain damage. I think Swihart will get his time. If the team's smart it will be very slow and careful about easing Holt back into his job.
  15. Were either of them in the garage being worked on at the time, or were you the only one with his hood open?
  16. I do feel sorry for YOTN recently. He's had to play policeman a whole lot more than he's used to in the last few months
  17. Exactly.
  18. No one gets laid in a car that's in the shop either.
  19. ... and not picking up that option would have allowed us to keep Rich Hill.
  20. Most of those don't come up to the same standard of evidence that applied to the majority of the Yankees in the initial list. To get on that list you had to have confirmed sourced allegations at the very least -- in other words not only some nebulous accusation, but having someone say they knew where you got your drugs and put their own name to that as a source. that said the Yankees are well known for "buying high" on top performers, and in the steroid era, it was a matter of fact that that would net you a disproportionate number of steroid abusers.
  21. And all of them with much stronger direct allegations than anything that has been cofirmed on Ortiz
  22. I know that. It was a joke FFS.
  23. maybe Earl Weaver was wrong. Pitching, defense, and the 2 run double? I can get behind it.
  24. Oh lord yes. The celtics, Bruins and Pats come and go based on whether they're good that year or not, but Red Sox gear is something you always see around in summertime, even when the team completely and utterly sucks.
  25. Well a combination of between the ears and the fact that he's always been a walking stick figure and that has impacted his durability. Really skinny starting pitchers seem to have just as many durability issues as really fat ones, at least that's been my observation with them. I've always wondered why they didn't just try Buchholz out of the pen. Guy has durability issues... so maybe put less innings on his arm? They've been even more stubborn with buchholz than the Royals were with Luke Hochevar, and for far less reason.
