  1. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=3797&position=SS Check out that BABIP. that's extremely low. That usually means that a guy's making a lot of good contact and not finding holes. Hanley Ramirez will cost a whole heck of a lot more talent. I could see us going there but I'm by no means certain we will. Theo likes prospects.
  2. All the numbers behind the numbers suggest that Hardy hit into a lot of bad luck this year and should bounce back. Whether he comes all the way back I dunno, but he should hit better than this.
  3. We do this every year it seems. We dominate them early, they dominate us in September, we laugh last. As long as the pattern holds true, I'll tolerate this part of it.
  4. Rangas lose. Number is 2.
  5. I vote for late 90's Nomar. We're as likely to have him on our team as we are to have Tulowitzki.
  6. Even with recent years accounted for, he's done a better job of it than Gonzalez. And at least he'll actually cost what he's worth instead of 4 times more.
  7. If it came to that, I'd take a look at Everett or Tejada before I went back to Gonzo. I just don't trust him to stay healthy.
  8. http://www.ozfbody.com/images/GFB%202.JPG But it used to be such a great car!!!!! the difference is you can't refurbish a catcher.
  9. And while we're on the subject of left field, and the Mets' problems, I wouldn't mind in the slightest if this team decided to make a play for Carlos Beltran.
  10. you don't really want to leave a guy like Byrd in the game very long at all after they start getting tired. He needs perfect command to be effective.
  11. Game. because apparently this team is the only one that can never hit in New Yankee Stadium. Wasted a great effort by Paul Byrd
  12. Too many Christian holidays incorporate some form of political compromise with a now-long-dead "heathen" religion. Example? Christmas itself. Christ was born wile shepherds watch their flocks by night. They do that to protect the new lams that are born... in the Spring. As in NOT THE MIDDLE OF FRIGGIN DECEMBER!!! That decision was made in an effort to replace or supplant the druidic holiday of Yule. Instead the two holidays melded into some kind of freakshow half-Christian, half pagan mythology of its own. The result was a total bastardization of one of the most important moments in Christian history.
  13. Investing in a player of another race so that "people like him" will come out to see him is the same thing exactly as altering the schedule of the game to accomodate a religious holiday.
  14. which is CD's point. We americans just don't observe ancient traditions enough for people to get silly about accomodating them for us.
  15. Yep, Tek still sucks.
  16. The man has a point. But Christians by and large have a very different view of their holidays than Jews. Half of our holidays these days are just an excuse to do something fun -- like go to a game. So it's not really a fair comparison. We just don't have that one, big, catch-all, defile-this-and-you-are-scum holiday.
  17. That's not what's going on. It's just a question of setting the game so that Jews will attend (and pay to attend). Increasing attendance and revenue. Adjusting to the market in order to maximize demand, in other words.
  18. My bad.
  19. Which is why it's stupid. Why are we playing musical left fielders when we have one that we already know can get the job done and be a productive bat in the AL East? The marginal gain on Holliday over Bay is ridiculously small.
  20. Nick Green's walk off homer. For pure LULZ.
  21. Which is stupid. The guy's what, 31? That's not exactly Old Man Methuselah. I bet you anything Holliday signs for the same or more years than Bay does.
  22. I think Jose Reyes has a better shot at being available than Tulo does. Which doesn't I hasten to add, mean I actually think Reyes is definitely available. Just that the Mets have more reason to trade Jose than the Rockies have to trade Tulowitzki.
  23. By some calculations he was the best defensive catcher in the Sox system this year. I have never heard a single disparaging word about any facet of Federowicz's defensive game. If he can hit at all he should be a lock to get to the bigs as at least a backup.
